New Defender Au Spec Bullbar
#71
I came up with an idea on how to install the bull bar without importing in all the components.
Have the dealership installVPLEP0427 / VPLEP0490 without the winch. Purchase the AU Bull Bar, VPLEP0448, through Scuderia and pay less for all the shipping by omitting the winch assembly. $905.00 plus shipping. Well shipping is $2,881.27. If the entire assembly is shipped from Scuderia the cost is $3,138.91 for shipping only. Not much of a savings.
Maybe i can find a Bloke in AU to send to me or a buddy I know from NZ who imports cars and boas.

This will not work. The winch tray is different for the AUS bullbar (it mounts differently -- slides in) than for the US winch plastic thing) which slides down into the mount...
Ask me how I know... when I got mine, I got an AUS bullbar with the US winch tray (it was entirely a JLR parts error, they screwed up). When I went to mount the bullbar to the car, it would not mount. There was no place to slide it in. Had to uninstall the entire thing, and re-install the correct one. You do in fact need the bullbar winch mount tray.

@Chris.Gio @BOBO99 I'm probably in if you find a way to get in bulk cheaper. Saw the install here the other day. Looked fantastic. I was a little concerned about the lack of protection to the bottom area of the radiator or cooler. It looked as if there was a part missing or needed something. Anybody have any thoughts on that?

I have cousins in Australia and lots of friends in both Australia and New Zealand (having lived and worked there for years in the past).
Budget isn't right for the bull bar just now, but when it is, it looks like the best approach is to purchase over there and then ship back to the US. If and when I do that I'll let people know and if there's interest we can ship together and save money.
I'm mystified as to why LR US and Canada don't at least offer these as an option since they are made in China and have to be shipped to Australia, NZ and South Africa. Is it a federal safety thing? As far as I am aware, North America has no pedestrian safety standards at all (unlike the UK and EU), which is why any yahoo can drive a pickup on the road whose hood line is at chest height on me (6'2").
If LR are reading this - just ship a couple of containers of the bull bars over here - they will all sell. And while you are at it, sell the Bowler sill rails at the same time.

My bar has arrived and will be installing in the next week or two. Question, has anyone installed aux lights to the bar? I'm looking at two sets. One 5" drive and one 3" yellow fog. I can't block the radar under the badge. Suggestions or images? May go with A Pillar driving light and the fogs on the bar.

@BOBO99 pretty sure @2OceansOverland has some roundies on his bulbar. You can probs search his posts here to find images or look him up on instagram.
I know it was a bit of a fiddle to find the right diameter bracketry to go around the bull bar tubes to mount.

I believe that they would have to do a crash test with the bull bar on a defender so it could be sold here. I got mine from South Africa and shipping was crazy at $2k.
