New used headlight help.
Good afternoon everyone, I have just had my headlight replaced with a used one I had shipped from Indiana. Headlight works but the halo comes on for a few seconds before turning off. Blinker works fine too my mechanic said that it is vin locked to the previous vehicle. My question is how do I get it unlocked and add to mine? I do have the new G4 gap tool but have not activated it yet. Any suggestions would be appreciated. And I did search for this topic but didn’t find anything. Thank you.
Car unlocked but before it starts.
This comes on and then it’s gone. I have seen the halo working for a few seconds a few times.

I am pretty sure these headlamps are not actually VIN locked to our L663's. I may be wrong about that but .. a friend bought an Ebay headlight and replaced it in his driveway and no coding was required.
EDIT: Oh wait. Did you not swap the module (the metal thing on the back) from your old headlight to the new one?

No swapping module
I don’t do it my mechanic did it and he did not swap them. Mine was burnt out as a rock hit the light and it was raining it probably lasted a few minutes before it burned out. One pin on the Deutsch connector was welded on. Had to be cut off I believe. I will send it to the dealer on Saturday. As I have to fly out of town for work in Tennessee for a week this should give them time to figure it out. And I hope they do I would hate to have to order a new one from the dealer. I was quoted at $3600 for the headlight by itself. That is crazy expensive in my opinion.

I think you bought a bad headlight. I have replaced both of mine in the past and they burn out just like that. Nothing has been welded and there has been no coding the headlight to the vehicle. You should try to send it back to the seller. Please tell me you have the old headlight. If so you can send that in to a headlight repair place and get a new chip for $300-$800 depending on the shop, while you limp along with this bad one. I have a spare for both sides and if they burn out again I will send in a spare to get a new chip.

Looks like you bought a bad headlight. Buy the board from powerful UK and ship the headlight and new chip over to me. I can swap it out for you.

Saltek to the rescue.
Thank you Sal. I have to fly out today for work in Tennessee and I dropped off the defender at the dealership so they can fix the seat track. I’m asked them to see what’s up with the headlight but to let me know before hand how much they would charge to fix it with there computer. So I’ll let you know what happens. And thank you for always being there for the community. I left the old one in the back seat for them if they needed it.
