Default Newbie with new car question

Hello New to Land Rover and just picked up my 23 110 S tonight. I didn’t build the car myself due to timing and realized a few things and was hoping someone can help clarify:
  • there are spaces for backseat power outlets and USB chargers in the center of the rear seat but they are just caps with no ports. Was there an option to add them or is it a parts issue? Can these be added through LR or after market?
  • should there be USB ports in the back of the driver and passenger seats?
  • I reversed in an area with low lighting at night. The back up camera was quite dark - is this normal? My Volvo was always bright and easy to see.

thanks for your help!

Did not build my 23 S either. I’ve had mine for two months now.

I have the same set up as you. Caps in rear, no usb in seats. Shoot, I don’t even have the sunglass holder in the roof, just a plastic cap.

As the weather and lighting has gotten worse this fall, I’ve noticed the same poor quality low light camera. It’s borderline worthless.

but all that to say I’m pumped to have a defender. I absolutely love this rig.

The lack of USB plugs for the 2nd row as well as the front passenger along the cross beam are recent victims of parts shortages. There's a thread or two floating around about it - here. Yes, they can be added as when you remove the caps there are plugs that will take USB outlets. For the 2nd row however there are only 2 plug in connectors so the other 2 (of the 4) need to be "tapped" into either of the aforementioned cables with connectors. The plugs are a bit buried and it may take some effort to pull them out.

Another forum member pointed out this shortage was captured in a TOPIX bulletin (or whatever they're called) so Land Rover may eventually install the outlets as some sort of service campaign. No word from Land Rover about it and dealers are woefully ignorant on the matter as a whole so we'll just have to wait and see. The USB connectors can be sourced by consumers though.

The USB plugs in the back of the seat were taken away some time ago and those cannot be installed aftermarket (without new seats).

Just ordered these. Has anyone done this install yet? Is there any advantage in having the rear bumper off (I'll also be installing tow hooks)? Any other advice?

Thank you

Matt

I installed these LED reversing lights and love them. They really illuminate the area behind the vehicle when backing.

I installed mine with the bumper on, simple job following PowerfulUK’s video. Of course with the bumper off, should be the same install, possibly easier if that improves access.

I installed PowerfulUK's backup lights, too. A few comments:
  • The backup-only lights are only just bright enough where I live in the cold and the rain and the dark. Don't be tempted by the combo units where alternate bulbs are brake/turn signal.
  • When taking the rear panels off, don't twist them - pull them straight back. If they're not straight, they bind.
  • Not that we can do anything about it, but I wish the lights pointed straight back, rather than pointing out (a bit). I think it would look better as well as illuminate better.

Also put the PowerfulUK reverse lights on. They definitely improve reverse lighting. Overall exterior lights are probably my biggest complaint with the car.

Only challenge for me was getting the wires and harness to tuck cleanly behind the panel when reassembling to clip back in right. Got there eventually, just took some creativity.
