I would like to do some off road in Death Valley though and I assume some of these tires listed will be much stronger against rocks than the OEM tire.

When I go to Big O or American tire sites their search engine does not offer any of the tires discussed here. Only Duratrac was listed and said "does not meet Speed Index"

What can I expect if I walk in and ask for a stronger tire that fits and does not rub? Will they refuse to try to fit the choices this thread has outlined? Make me sign a disclaimer? And uggh.. choices about spacers, the sensor swap/replace comments.

It is incredible how often you folks change tires to try things! I don't know how you do it...like me changing my socks!

I don't want any mods (future sale, don't want warranty arguments, and LR dealer won't do Johnson lifts anyway) and only can rely on a tire shop to mount a stronger tire.

Many of us run 275/55/20, and these don't require rods or any lift, completely stock. There are tons of options in that size for tires thought to have better durability than your stock tires. You won't find it difficult at all to walk into a tire shop and have them mount something like this. You won't see any impact to future resale by having these tires, hell most people probably won't even notice/see the difference looking at the car.

@aao4473 - Did you put spacers on those? I seem to recall you have 25mm's but can't find the thread. Which brand did you use? LOVE the set up by the way!

Umbertob,
Man! You spoke directly to the tracks I have been on or was considering. Lippincott seemed too narrow and remote for me at this point.
Do you think Mengel Pass doable with this vehicle?
Tire shopping soon!
Thanks!

Thanks Merrion -

The websites are pretty limited and as I read this thread (twice) there were some contradictions by posters - got a little lost in the thread!

I'm looking at this setup and not sure what level of rub I may get...

Rim: 20X10 TSW Silvano - 40 offset
Tire: looks like I'd have to put at least a 285 on it, so I was thinking a Nitto Ridge Grappler 285/55/20. Overall dia is 32.60 and width is 11.69. Seems this combo will be about a half inch outside what this feed says should fit without rubbing. The height looks like it will be fine, but the width - not so much. Even the 285/45/22 width is 11.22, so about .47 inches more.

Speaking to the tire shop that recommended these, they say they will fit...but we all know what that means...

I'm between this option and a Vossen HF5 9.5 rim, 275/55/20 Nitto tire...but I don't like the 2X+ price the Vossen's come with...
Just got back from attempting to fit 285/55-20 Baja Boss AT's on Vossen HF-5 20x9.5 et20. I can confirm that they will not fit with "no-lift' without trimming of the fender liner. I am probably going to go with a less aggressive tire design, and size to ensure it will clear the fender without issue. Looked really cool though

Awesome! Looks great

Would I have any issues doing this with a P300 110?

I purchased the GY Duratrac 275/55R20s and they really appear sturdy. Rougher ride but I'll get used to it.

With suspension set to max height, no lifts or spacers.
They say M +S and are 113Ts Thank you for all the posts. That was great. I got talked out of the Nitto Grapplers for no other reason than the opinion was "too much tire".

Before I go to Death Valley next month I will air them down to 30 psi (off of the 47-51 they are running at now) just so I can see what that feels like and how much closer to the ground my 20 inch wheels get.

Wasted exercise? These are wider tires with the appearance of good grab.
IF I DON'T AIR DOWN -- Other than ride discomfort - I'll go at slower speed - will I be losing opportunity to grab on to rocks? (for the few rock crawls Mengal Pass has)
