Default Octa Check Engine Light

The Octa has been a major improvement in power and agility over the 110V8. Like others, I love the Charente grey. Unlike others, I’m gonna keep the diamond wheels.

The strange thing has been the check engine light. Dealer seems relatively clueless right now. Good guys over there, it’s just new. Seems to get fault messages from the battery control module and that throws up a check engine light. If I drive far enough after a start, it’ll go away, but I’ll trigger it again next time I start it. So, I’m guessing that it’s a byproduct of auto start/stop, the BCM is the same on this as other Defender V8s, and that it’ll just be a software patch or replacement of that module as a fix. Again, just guessing on all three.

Has anyone experienced similar in Octa or other defenders? I’ll keep you posted on what dealer ends up doing. Either way, it doesn’t keep me up at night. Yet.

Also, anyone who still has time to amend their order— get the deployable running boards. Normal mode feels much higher than the V8, and off-road mode is higher than interests rates. Dealer wanted $9,500 to add them. I declined their offer lol.

Do you have a scan tool to read the codes? If the check engine light keeps coming back, it is going to be stored in the system.

No sir. Just what the dealer told me when I brought it in earlier this week. I go back Tuesday for them to have another look. It’s at the detailer now for ceramic over the weekend.

I'd invest in a GAP Tool. It is a scan tool that allows you to read and clear codes, and also allows features to be activated, as well as setting custom ride heights for the air suspension, and so much more. Very useful and something every LR owner should have.

Hello Tex130V8 - sorry for off subject question - how do you like the Michelin tires on your Octa? Are they quiet? I haven't seen the Michelin Primacy tires before. Thanks - BTW, Beautiful Octa and I also love the wheels! I just picked up a Sedona Red Edition a few weeks ago and it is being ceramic coated now as well.
Regards!

Another new Octa owner, also Charente. I had a similar issue but it came up in relation to another problem, power steering went out. It turned out to be minor (clip for the wiring harness at the rack was not full seated) but for some reason a CEL came on at the same time. What the dealer told me was that the code it threw wasn't even in TopiX yet, no record of it. No wiring diagrams, schematics, or anything is loaded yet for dealers to see. They had to open a case with the UK then wound up using the old fashioned way of process of elimination. Great job by the dealer, so I believe what you are being told. They are just so new there isn't a lot of support yet.

How do you like it? I am quite tall and find it hard to get up into it, first truck ever like it. Can't wait till I am out of break in!

I love the tires. I felt like the contis wore out quickly (though evenly) on our sv and 110v8, so I’m hoping Michelins last a bit longer. In fairness, we drive the **** out of these things so maybe it’s just us pushing tires to the limits. Ride seems improved over the v8 no doubt. Assuming that’s mostly 6D suspension.

Yes, getting into the Octa is interesting but my wife and I have both acclimated. Deployable running boards are a must. I don’t like to use auto access mode because I hate to make the Octa look slammed when it’s parked. But the deployable running boards on the Petra Octa in the showroom at our dealer were perfect.

Cincy, is this something that has to remain plugged in at all times in order to work or plug in, set things according to preferences, and unplug? I'm thinking I should get this and a fitcamx.

Plug it in when you want to use it, for example to read codes, or change something. If changing something it updates the CCF (config files). Then unplug it and off you go. Make sure your phone and car are both charged, as you don't want to be writing a file and die due to lack of power.
