Octa Check Engine Light
Plug it in when you want to use it, for example to read codes, or change something. If changing something it updates the CCF (config files). Then unplug it and off you go. Make sure your phone and car are both charged, as you don't want to be writing a file and die due to lack of power.
Another new Octa owner, also Charente. I had a similar issue but it came up in relation to another problem, power steering went out. It turned out to be minor (clip for the wiring harness at the rack was not full seated) but for some reason a CEL came on at the same time. What the dealer told me was that the code it threw wasn't even in TopiX yet, no record of it. No wiring diagrams, schematics, or anything is loaded yet for dealers to see BMW spares uk. They had to open a case with the UK then wound up using the old fashioned way of process of elimination. Great job by the dealer, so I believe what you are being told. They are just so new there isn't a lot of support yet.
How do you like it? I am quite tall and find it hard to get up into it, first truck ever like it. Can't wait till I am out of break in!

The check engine light issue you’re describing with the battery control module fault sounds like a known quirk related to the auto start/stop system. It’s common in Defender V8s and usually resolves with a software update or BCM module replacement. Driving longer after startup clearing the light fits this pattern. Hopefully, the dealer will provide a fix soon. Also, good call on skipping the deployable running boards at $9,500—that’s quite expensive! Normal mode’s height on the Octa definitely feels taller than the V8.
Yes sir. Now the UK is telling my dealer to replace the battery control module. Til then, I just drive long enough for the light to go off.
Well, things took an interesting turn.
JLR is so strongly recommending that it isn’t driven until they get a new BCM into it that they gave me a 2025 V8 off the lot and said have fun.
The Octa has been in the shop for 2 weeks total, JLR expects to have the part here by the end of June, so hoping to have the Octa back by first week of July.
I am pleased with the dealer, they’re going above and beyond by setting me up with a V8 in the meantime. They also said they’d give me the deployable running boards for free and install for free while it’s in the shop waiting for the BCM. Then offered a free weekend in Austin for some off road action when I get the Octa back.
I do think it’s ridiculous that they won’t let me drive it. I just want my car back.
