Hi All - I recently bought my first LR, the 2020 Defender, and overall absolute love it! There are a few "odd" things I'm experiencing and looking for some ideas if these are issues to be fixed or just limitations. Appreciate the help!
1) What does the rear door button on the remote do? Mine does nothing. Reading the manual it seems the door should open when I click and hold down. Is this what I should expect?
2) Climate sync - My 1st and 2nd row climate is always in sync, even if I click the sync button to turn it off. If someone in the 2nd row turns up the fan to 2 then the front turns up to 2 as well, or 3 or 4, etc. and vice versa. Nothing I've tried allows for them to be controlled independently. Advice?
3) Apple CarPlay - If my wife and I get to the car at the same time it's roulette on who's phone will connect to carplay first. And once connected it will not allow to switch to the other ones, even if you disconnect one phone and connect the other. The only "fix" is to turn the car off and try again. Ideas?
4) Can only connect to CarPlay through built in Wifi - If I try Bluetooth it won't connect and only way it will connect is if I connect to the built in Wifi. Is this normal?
5) No Google Maps on main dash - Though carplay if I use apple maps it will then display on the main drivers dash, but good maps does not. Is this expected?
Rear door FOB button function has to be activated, it least I did on mine using GAP tool.
Sync I haven't figure out it myself. It seems rear fan will override, but i think the whole 2nd row can be locked.
Carplay - there's a menu somewhere, it allows you to set priorities in connected phones. I did that. To switch I dont think you can without turning off, but its not really needed, both can take and make calls thru PIVI.
Carplay needs wifi and bluetooth to operate.
Only apple maps or built in can appear in central cluster, not google. Don't know why.
I'm by no means a Defender expert, having only owned ours for about 6 months - but I came across a couple of these issues myself... specifically with regards to "phone roulette".
My Z Fold 4 and 6 both connected to Pivi almost immediately upon the system booting up and my wife's iPhone didn't have a chance. There is a setting in Pivi that you can set the priority of the phones connecting. There's also a way to switch phones in the Pivi tile for device connection.
My wife's iPhone won't let Google maps be displayed in the dash screen - my Samsung displays google maps in the dash screen just fine. I'm not aware of any way to sort that out.
The rear door button on our FOB doesn't do anything either.
Quickest way to switch phones if it connects the wrong one is to plug the other one in directly. It will ask about switching to the plugged in phone at that point. There is a way to switch the selected phone through the ui as well but I can’t remember the steps and honestly I don’t bother since the cord trick works so well. It’s worth keeping a cord around for charging anyway.

The ability for a CarPlay-enabled app to use a vehicle’s instrument cluster display was introduced in iOS 15.4. For this to work, the app must support multiple windows, with one window specifically designed for the instrument cluster. JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) has implemented the necessary system updates, but app developers need to modify their code to support this feature.
As of now, I don’t believe Google has updated its apps to utilize the instrument cluster display. However, if you’re looking for an off-road app with this capability, I created an iOS app called NavOffroad. Check it out if you’re interested.
