Removed the roof rail bolts today. Patience and heat seemed to do the job. You could tell the front 4 bolts were much harder to remove.

Here’s the finished project. I’m really pleased with how it turned out.

Just installed my front runner rack. I was all prepared for the bolts to have lots of loctite and need some heat to loosen them. To my surprise all the bolts came out with not a single drop of loctite on them. Guess I will be sending back that induction bolt heater. I have a 2021 P400 SE.

Guess I got lucky

You should reinstall them with loctite (blue only) if you want your rack to be secure.

Honestly not sure why some companies chose to not use the factory roof rails to mount the rack. I have a Defender with a Voyager rack at my shop and noticed how they used the mounting bolts to mount the rack and kept the rails in place. I had heard how difficult it was to remove these bolts, so, unless they have to be removed, why design it to require removal. Attaching a rack in the same way as the factory Expo rack using the t slot in the roof rails seems like the obvious choice. Also makes the rack very easy to remove. Just my 2c.

Out of curiosity, would anyone be interested in selling their roof rails that they’re not using? I’m in the northeast and mine are damaged. I feel like with shipping it may end up costing me as much as OEM but shot in the dark!??
