Default Opinions needed on new car delivery

Hi All,

Quick question. Just took delivery of my 2023 110 in Eiger Gray. Car has a blemish on the front of the hood about a tennis ball in size. It looks like a flat spot in the clear coat but after the dealer had their detailer and paint shop look at, have determined it's a bad area of paint. They have been great to work with and will do what ever I like to address but right now are asking if I want to repaint the who hood or leave as is. I'm not keen to repaint the whole hood for a multitude of reasons the major one being the match so I'm leaning towards leaving as is as it's actually quite hard to see. You wouldn't see it unless I pointed it out but I'm a perfectionist and it bugs me a bit on a new car. Can I use this as leverage on maybe an accessory lol or being it's a warranty issue not worth trying? I'd include a pic but can't get it to show up well on my phone.

Whack a hood decal on it. Maybe get them to throw in some other black accent pieces too to augment the finish. Wide arches etc. Just a thought. Looks good on the lighter colors like whites, eiger and silicone

Great minds Gavin! That is 100% what I was thinking of asking them to do. It won't cover the spot but would help distract and I was going to add the decal anyway lol!

I would absolutely have them repaint the hood. I've worked in Dealerships for years (ago) and have some experience on the Used side as well. There should be two concerns: Resale and Quality. Most dealers these days are good at assessing vehicles for prior body damage. The "big boys" in the Used world (Carvana, CarMax, etc) have entire processes to check this. With the hood, the painters will (should!) remove the entire hood. Then they will take it down, paint it, clear coat it, yada yada yada and bring it back up to the same/better quality. Since the vehicle is so new, you won't have paint fading mis-matches that the appraisers will pick up on. Also, because they will need (should!) remove the hood, you are not going to get the tell tale signs of over spray. So having it done NOW is not a bad idea. Further, if the Dealer is doing it, they aren't going to take it to Maaco. It will be quality. Whoever they take it to has to deal with Jaguars and their owners! It will look good. And if they are willing to go that far, they aren't cutting corners because it is clear they can warranty it back to JLR.

THEN if you want, put on the hood sticker. I like 'em.

ymmv

I wouldn’t be worried about a paint mismatch at all. Paint mixers are so good these days and they’re going to repaint the whole hood “corner to corner.” If they tried to just touch up a section without painting the whole thing, that’s when I would be worried about a mismatch. And like the other fella said, the paint on this car is still so new that it hasn’t had any time to fade yet.

edit: also when I mention paint mixers, it’s not like they’re trying to match the color and hope it’s close. They can get the exact same color mix code that manufacturer uses off the sticker on the inside of the door.

Helpful on the painting opinions. I had someone else tell me there's a 10-20% chance the paint will be noticeable which freaked me out.

I think that's more opinion based than experience based. You have to be a pro-to notice something done afterwards if they do it right. A Dealer's collision repair department or who they sub-let it to would shock me if they were that bad - and if you've read my past posts, I'm pretty hardened in my attitudes with the Dealer's techs. But, let's say absolute worst case and you have a terrible experience (which sounds the opposite of how things have been going) - THEN you can add the hood sticker and walk away.
