P300 4 cylinder
So I am going to throw this out there just to get where everyone else is....my defender is a year old this month (2024)...I have 16K on it, my commuter to work and main workhorse. I changed the oil twice so far. No issues all works great and no failure of any kind (knock on wood). But I know the main issues are with teh Diesle variant but how are other P300 4 cylinders holding up. How about the timing belt any issues? Honestly if anyone had Honda's you know that at 80K. you get a new timing belt. I am not looking to lease this then trade, I keep vehicles until they crap out....So looking for others who have the same...its a 110 and it's loaded with all the options too. I do love this thing.....Ready set go!!!
143k miles on my 2021 110, about 35k of those now towing a 3,500lb trailer. P300 has been nothing but reliable for me - knock on wood
Make sure to follow the break-in procedure, I change the oil every 6-7k miles.

I tried finding an article I found while searching myself on which motor to get but can’t seem to find it.
It was experts from edmunds or something like that. They said that the P300 2.0L turbo is the one to get in America for reliability. They said it was because it’s the simplest design and therefore the one recommended. The others have more technology (mild hybrid) that makes them more prone to failure.
With this said, my P300 has been totally reliable since last January when I purchased it new.

I have an early 2021MY P300, and the only *real* issue I've had was the ECU for the fuel pump failed a month or so after I took delivery. Otherwise it's been dead reliable since I purchased it, and I have 45k miles. Oil changes every 5k since new.

Nope, the P300 is a pure turbocharged engine with no electric assist. Only the P400 is an MHEV. The Defender 130 P300 is an MHEV I6 - a detuned version of the P400.
My P300 is turning 4 later this year - the only issue I have had in that time was a turbo failure at less than 10,000 miles that is almost certain to have been a manufacturing issue. I was able to drive home over 300 miles in "limp home" mode and the turbo was replaced under warranty. I don't do a ton of miles so I change the oil annually at 5-6000 miles.
I factory ordered the P300 because it's the simpler, more tested engine and also because it was $10,000 cheaper and I've never yet felt I needed more horsepower.

So I took the saved money and used it towards building it how I think a Defender should look like. It cost me much more than $10Gs but it’s at least that.
