I had had my heart set on a PHEV Defender but I did the same math as the poster above. It's going to cost $12-15,000 more than the P300 (based on PHEV RR and RRS pricing in other markets) and add a bunch of weight and complexity. I have driven <10,000 miles a year for the past decade. So using battery power for short trips and getting ~20% better mileage would save me about 100-150 gallons of gas per year. Even at $5 a gallon it would take over 20 years to break even. There'd be environmental cred and some possible tax advantages, but it still wouldn't make economic sense for me with my current usage. Even if gas goes to $10 a gallon like in parts of Europe and ANZ, it's still a decade to break even.
If I were wealthy enough to buy a PHEV just for the environmental glow, I might consider it but it probably wouldn't be a Defender in that case

Its going to be a while.
PHEV for rover is a huge seller as it meets the requirements of many big cities (needs to be full electric in the city). So I think its going to be AFTER the chip/parts/war/misc excuses end that it'll become available here in the US. But the current gas prices, if they remain at this level/similar, should push demand for them to come back here.
They had a few PHEV RRS back in like, 2018 and 2019. Don't think they were popular but were here. I'd seriously consider a PHEV D130 in ~5 years. I'd love full electric mode for errands. Heck I'd love it for the trail.
