I really do hate to start this thread, having suffered your pain through reading the many issues in this area over the past many, many months.

I have come down from the mountains long enough to start daily commuting on a high-speed, east coast U.S. interstate. So, my driver's side A pillar cover on my 2020 Defender 110 has come off and is sitting in my boot in the back.

My re-reading of the threads on this topic has not brought clarity. When I get to the dealer to receive their warranty "fix", what should I make sure happens .... or does not happen?

I'm in too. After a year of rattling and whistling I need to get my passenger side pillar repaired too. Sounds like it will blow off any day now when driving at higher speeds.

Google "JLRTB02058NAS1 TECHNICAL BULLETIN" and you can download and print out the 38 page repair instructions and take them to the dealer in case they have no idea how to fix it.

 

Took 2 of mine in for the “A” noise issue, back when I still owned them, and, after the “fix”, that’s when they blew off. Had to repair them two or three more times each before I finally let them both go to Carmax. Turned out, selling them to Carmax was the best part of owning these vehicles.

 

So true, not too often a vehicle appreciates in value as soon as you drive it off the dealer lot. Hopefully you are back in a trouble-free Lexus transportation appliance.

 

The early A Pillar fixes with felt tape do not work. LT came out with a new TSB this past summer - and worked like a charm. Had to order silicone and a few other things. You can find the TSB somewhere on here.

 

I just dropped off my Defender at the dealer for a few fixes (passenger A-pillar one of them). The maintenance guy mentioned that there's a new fix that involved a redesigned A-pillar part that would possibly need to be ordered. I'll report back here with what transpires...

 

Good luck. My dealer wouldnt order the new parts - but only perform the TSB. They did redesign the pillar underside - but my dealer only performed the TSB. The fix eliminated air going under the mounting piece I believe which solves the noise.

 

Thanks for reporting. I've been holding off getting this done until they come up with a real 'official' fix for it. It's pretty disappointing they're now into third model year builds and it still seems to be unresolved, but maybe the redesigned A pillar will finally be the end of it.

I have an appointment at the local dealer in 7 days.

This past weekend I walked my 2020 VIN number through the instructions which PaulLR provided (thanks!) and found my lower bolt cover was broken and would need to be replaced by the dealer.

So I stopped by there this morning and they let me know that the fix had changed and would require these three parts (which they ordered):

LR161362 Finisher Outer
LR161347 Finisher Outer
LR161359 Finisher Outer

They totaled $352.55 material only - if paid outside warranty. All three fit the Defender and supersede the previous part numbers.

I could not find any pictures of them.

The parts guy at the dealer said the parts MAY arrive this week. In any case, I will let you know how look the parts, when they arrive and how they install.
