Why not just sell it and get a new one?

Seriously? I bought my Defender off the lot in October 2020 when dealers were ghost towns and inventory was good. So I got a nice deal. Now, every Defender I see advertised is 'used' with 1,500 miles and $20K over sticker or it just says "Call For Price". No thanks.

The truck works and drives ok. I'm just frustrated by the lack of quality control as I have dealt with the weird A-pillar noises and self-breaking windshield thing. Now this software quirk is just the latest frustration.

Totally agree with your amazement re: the pricing and the total customer abandonment these days by many Dealers, @CombatNinja . I wonder if some of the things you list are "first year gremlins". I'm always nervous with a first model year and, holy moly, it's a Land Rover on top of that!

Then again, was MY2020 the first year or the first full year??

I assume that 2020 was the first year worldwide, no? I don't think there are 2019 Defenders anywhere. Was a regular year for Europe but surely a shortened year for the U.S. When I bought mine in October of 2020 (when one would be expecting to be picking up a 2021), it was in the first batch of cars this North Carolina dealer had seen. I think they had sold 2 or 3 previously and the GM was driving one but they certainly did not start selling new 2020s before September of that year. It was a 'lot' car that checked enough boxes that I went ahead and pulled the trigger on. I was in a bit of a hurry because I was only about 60 days from the lease maturity on a 2018 Velar that I had $8,500 in equity in (due to COVID weirdness). So I saw the inevitable supply issues looming and wanted to ditch the Velar to cash in. First World problems to be sure but they just are so far from a premium experience here in the States.

In the last century I bought one of the first four door Chevy Tahoe's fully loaded. I think they were only sold in 2 at first. I loved that truck. It was the first that the Dealership sold. I thought I took a HUGE risk. Turned out not too bad. Maybe like your Defender. A few PITA's but nothing causing any carnage.

Yes seriously, you sell at a premium and buy a new one at MSRP, walk away even and can stop complaining.

What planet do you live on that you think I can sell a 2020 $72K Defender for the current 'value' of $70,000 and then magically buy one for MSRP? The reason a used one is so expensive is because new ones are severely limited and what is out there is being marked up over sticker. There is not a buyable 'new' Defender within 300 miles of me. The only thing I could walk into a dealer and buy today is a 2022 that is 'used' with a few miles that is marked up $15-20K over MSRP.

You clearly do not grasp what is happening at Land Rover dealers in the mid-Atlantic region. You are not paying MSRP unless it is an order that was agreed to be sold at MSRP months and months ago.

I got mine for MSRP (Northeast) - ordered 6 weeks ago... allocation confirmed this week. - For reference.
