Unfortunately, the use of laser jammers is illegal here in California.

Default It is not your V1 ...

Greetings,
It is not your V1, it is your windshield. Not sure if you got the cold package, but if you do, that is the issue. Also some other coating blocks the signals coming from the front. Not much you can do about it, other than set on the roof. I have a Velar which gives me the same issue, and the 110 with cold package. In fact, any radar will do the same. You may get reflections from inside the cabin, to the back antenna of the radar, which may show the signal coming from behind. Try this: do a test with it in the cabin, and outside. You will see spectacular differences. Find a hwy. sign with a speed display, or bribe a cop with a box of Dunkin.

The Defender has an area on each side of the rearview mirror console without that windshield coating. My (Gen 2) V1 is mounted there and works perfectly.

My V1 gen 2 with escort dash cam are mounted on the rear view mirror with a blend mount. Wired into the F11 fuse for the cell phone charge pad. No issues

I don't have a V1, but a fairly sensitive Uniden R3 unit that lacks the direction arrows of a Valentine but is otherwise every bit as sensitive. As you will see in the other thread it's mounted kind of low above the center dash, no false alerts. Built-in GPS works great there too and the solar attenuating windshield doesn't appear to affect sensitivity to radar detection. But yeah, as others have recommended even in the original V1 you should lock out K, X - perhaps even laser - and likely eliminate a huge number of false alerts without jeopardizing detection of real bogeys from you local LEO. Pretty much all self respecting law enforcement agencies these days use either laser (in which case you're toast anyway) or Ka band radar guns operating on very limited frequencies. There are even databases online that tell you what your local agencies are likely to use for speed detection.
Don't give up on Laser detection. My Valentine 1 has save me from the guy in front of me getting lasered. Even though you can usually see a LEO before you get lasered, it still can save you a ticket.

I noticed this too and I have the V1 version 2. It detects a rear signal even while towing the defender or when it is plugged in the defender.

Greetings. So my MY2021 P400 has arrived, and as I feared, the cold package has my windshield like a Faraday cage. It is wired from top to bottom. @PaulLR I have seen another one at the dealership that has the coating missing around the review mirror, but... not mine. So my V1 is pretty much useless ... I will get a rear signal and all the side signals, but very weak from the front. Almost unusable...

That sucks...I ordered the cold weather package too. The one I test-drove had the cutouts along side the rear view mirror and I thought JLR put them there for radar detectors.
