Puzzled with the Urban Pack... and a segue to extreme temperatures
Just saw a 110 with an Urban Pack on a show floor and couldn't help thinking - what a bizarre combination. Can someone shed a light on why in the world you would want the front undershield in the city??? (not even gonna ask about the pedals, that's a team puddle light question)
Now, to the main question. I was also puzzled at how flimsy the "Bright Rear Scuff Plate" was, and couldn't help but notice that it is kept in place by adhesive - and the left side of that plate was already peeling off. Mind you, that's a fresh new vehicle in a conditioned environment. I also know that at least Wheel Arch Protection is held in place by adhesives, and from watching DIY videos I remember there's a lot of other pieces that are.
How does this adhesive hold up in desert summers? A few weeks ago I measured the dashboard in my other car at 83C/182F, and it looks like it's going to be the new normal.

tbey are held on with a large number of clips with differing designs in addition to the auto tape.
if done correctly and carefully the tape creates a very firm and robust bond.
the paint is etched to receive the tape.
Washington state, while not as hot as some areas does see 100 plus temps. My arches are as well anchored today as the day I installed.
my guess based on my own dealer experiences is that they didn’t invest sufficient attention to detail.
I’d not trust my dealer with this type of thing. Basic vehicle servicing with complex things like clips and tape is not their forté.
I have no concerns as to the efficacy of the 3M auto tape.
Have both items on mine. Arches where installed by the factory, seem just fine in the "tends to be excessively hot" parts of Nevada. They held up being hot and whacked by a bunch of vegetation over a week or two up in the just north of the "let's test atomic bombs here" mountains (why I never get field locations to do my geo-wizard work that are not arid hot desolate places). Now that also includes the scuff plate. Which I got expressly for ski boots and their tendency to scuff virtually everything. I did put the scuff plate on myself. It was a very challenging installation, especially the wipe it down with alcohol part. I figured it was something I may replace every few years from being beat up. So far, two ski seasons and two field seasons, not coming up at all and really looks quite nice still.
So far the few factory accessories I installed were not very challenging. Now my wife's Evoque needed mud flaps and they truly wanted a fortune to put them on and and excessive amount to buy them in the first place. I ended up getting them from Leaping Land Rover for a very reasonable price. Now they were a bit more challenging to install than the Defender ones were.

I did find one spot in my extended wheel arch "protection" kit needed a spare 5" piece of tape behind one spot right in front of the passenger door (D90 so only door)..
I've had it a year now and all OK.
I wish! It does snow in Windhoek, but not much nor every year. My wife is a ski demon (38 days last year), why we live in Flagstaff at the moment. Decent skiing 20 minutes from home, decent airport with instrument approaches and schools with over 100 kids. When the kids were around I only had them in Zambia with me for a short while. I really disliked my school in Switzerland, and felt they would be better off in the US. Move forward several years and now my oldest, a mining engineer, moved to Australia. Spent 9 years there, became a dual national, had two kids, both duals. Moved back to Denver, skiing and schools. No, you commit to moving there for very different reasons. I like the projects I get, the people are great and I like the countryside and visuals. Really if I want to ski while there, it is climb on an airliner and fly to Italy and ski the Dolomites. The skiing in Africa is really better than Brazil.
