My trailer jack-knifed on me at a very low speed (my fault) while reversing and damaged the driver side rear bumper cover of my 2021 D90. All cameras and blind spot sensors work. A new cover is around $1300 plus labor (likely~another $1000 or more). It seems quite possible to repair this myself or find a shop to do it if I take the cover in. Anyone done a repair with success?
I had someone rear-end me in the exact same spot. Albeit, my car has minimal damage. The JLR-Certified body shop I went to said the repair would be $1,500, and to replace it'd be a little over $3,100. However, I don't think yours can be repaired. That's a lot of damage, and I'm 99.9% positive that hole is too big to be repaired.
I'm going to have to replace my crash bar since mine is compromised. (Going w/ a tow hitch instead of the crash bar). It'll still be around $3k for the bumper repair and the tow hitch installation.
Yes that middle part needs to be replaced, LR137786 ( $ 1000.- + ).
Remove whole Rear bumper and disassemble corners and inner structure. You need to melt some clips in the number plate area .
Regular repair won’t cut it. Just fill this thing with bog and buy some silver spray paint at Bunnings and she’ll be fixed in no time!
A new bumper is defo the way to go…
Can't tell much on the crash bar but for bumper cover replacement, just buy aftermarket blackout versions which you can find on eBay easily, it'll be much cheaper and refresh the look if you like black trims.
Also, you may want to look for that part in junkyards. There are plenty of totaled Defenders being parted out. You will pay a fraction of the cost if you buy it used. You may need to have it painted though. I also recommend having a body shop give you a proper estimate by making sure there is no damage behind the bumper cover.
