Road characteristics with winch in place
The vehicle pushes more, slightly. Nothing like a pickup truck or an old-school VW GTI, but the change is there, none the less.
I am very pleased with the air suspension auto-leveling. But, one can also feel the new air bag stiffness impacting the spring rate in the front suspension, bringing it out of synchronization with the rear.
I am looking forward to adding the Lucky 8 rock sliders. The extra 250 lbs of dead weight down low will recover some of the front end heaviness from the winch install.
For those of you buying coil suspension, the upgrade for the winch will be more expensive, as the new, heavier coils will need to be installed.
None of this a surprise, but still something to consider.
For my purposes, the Defender is a working off-roader, so all is as expected.

I actually noticed a change in handling feel after installing the lucky8 sliders. The sharp bodycatch in cornering is now a bit softer, so the car feels a bit less dynamic in fast on road cornering, and a bit less fun on twisty roads. Nothing major, but it did change the feel enough to notice. Of course, that 250 comes out of payload, so the car can’t carry quite as much stuff and people as it could before. The price of protection.
