As simple as you like. After searching online and seeing the myriad of options for these at various costs, and after debating making a plate from 1/16" aluminium myself, I decided to first try the OEM rack with a couple of Thule T-track M6 bolts. Not sure why I didn't look at this option first.
Works well. Costs about $10, not including the RotoPax hardware. KISS
The setup with Pax mounted.
Mount positioned this way to reduce drag when not in use 99+% of the time.
Washers and rubber stripping
Monday evening tinkering
I used shorter nuts in the end.
A final polish.
I like your mod. I do it a bit differently, partially as my rooftop tent kind of pushes back where I can mount the Rotopaxs. I use T Bolts and rings, coupled with compression straps. Not as quick to remove, but offers a flat surface for mounting my Pelican 1620 on top of that. You can see from my prototyping pics how they are kind of off center due to spacing with the RTT, which was the lightest and smallest I could find, a Yakima SkyRise, 95 lbs. I was going to do a long field season this year, but I am off to Qatar and then Oman for some field work. Surprisingly it is cooler there than here. Then there is the getting to do all my field work in a Range Rover there.

I like that approach. Very effective.
Every time I see you shed/hangar I turn a vivid shade of envious green. Hopefully you get to enjoy some dune-play in the desert.
Yes the hanger is quite the barn, and very reasonably priced. Very secure as well, since we are a commercial airport. I like your method, but it will just not work out with the RTT. This works and is stupidly cheap. RotoPax mounts are a bit silly expensive they also tend to stick up a bit and you can't really put anything on top of them then. I kind of sold off all the ones I used to have for the old 97 Defender 90 ST. I mounted them inside to the sides, since they tend to disappear if you make them in any way accessible. They apparently sell well on Craigslist. I don't like external ladders as well for this very reason. I also have made, but not shown some 'L' shaped braces that mount in the tracks and keep everything in the same spot you wanted them in at the start.
Pic of my last time running the dunes in Qatar. Not really much else to do aside from sipping coffee in your spare time. Oman is better, great hiking. Masirha Island, off Oman, is more like a piece of the moon that fell off and landed in the ocean, not a single plant there. You sail sand rails around and lobsters abound, since they do not eat them, unclean. I agree about the unclean part, I've seen what they eat, but still find them delicious.
