Default Should I avoid the 4 cylinder petrol engine?

I have heard that the 4 cylinder petrol engine was pulled from the European market. Is this true and was it because of too many problems? I live in Florida, and we can still order this engine and I am considering it for my D90 build.

Any facts pertaining issues with this engine? Cant seem to find anything specific on the internet.

Thanks.

Rob.

I have heard nothing of the sort. LR did pull the smaller Diesel engine and replaced it with something more powerful. Many of us on the sight have the 4 cylinder and are very happy with it.

Only 1k on the clock so obviously can't speak to reliability, but I have no regrets whatsoever with getting the smaller engine. Don't tow, but live in CO and have no issues passing uphill, maintaining highway speed through mountain passes, etc... it is actually impressive given the size.

I occasionally tow a flats boats, total weight of boat and trailer is about 1600 lbs., so I dont think the 4 will have problems. I live in SW Florida and it is flat as a pancake, so no hills or mountains to climb, just flooded streets during hurricane season.

I have my 110 P300 S coming this Summer - test drove both engines a few months back and was also really impressed with the 4 cylinder. Went that direction since I could also get the steel wheels.

Imagine putting your truck-buying faith in first-generation JLR MHEV. What could go wrong?!

4 banger all the way.

Good point.

How long has the 4 cylinder been in production as I have no clue.

So -- as others have said, I think it was the D200 4-cylinder diesel that dropped from the line up in Europe, not the P300 4-cylinder petrol.

Looks like that (with the twin-turbo in the Defender) is from 2017 to now, and has been in a few other JLRs

After test driving the 4 cylinder engine in a 110 a week or two ago I have no reason to consider the six, especially since I'm likely to lease a 90 I'm expecting it to be more than adequate as a daily driver in my locale (upstate NY).

I've driven both and also chose the P300 for my MY2022 build. I know this sounds silly, but if the price was the same, I'd still pick the 4 over the 6 due to the smoothness. Another benefit of the P300 is that real-world MPG seems to be much better (consistently 20+) than the P400 (~ 16MPG from the reports I've seen on this site).

The 4 is (I believe) the same engine that has been in a variety of other Land Rover models, and has been known to be pretty solid.
