I just took a gamble and purchased an aftermarket kit for the side ladder on eBay. Should arrive tomorrow.
My motivation was to aid in getting kayaks up onto roof racks. Despite not buying a "Genuine LR" part, it looks identical and the official LR accessory fitting instructions says it can be installed on either side. Being in the US, it seems installing it would go better on the curb side for a couple of reasons: 1) it would not block any of the view in the driver's side mirror; and 2) if pulled off to the shoulder of a road, accessing from the off-traffic side would be safer.
Couple this with that I have no intention of ever adding a 'Gerry McGovern toybox', has anyone fitted a ladder on the right side?

I bought a knock off version and it would have fit either side. If it happens to come with the pre-drilled trim piece that may not be universal to either side. I think it has a specific top and bottom with different rubber trim on the the top vs the bottom. Either way, if you need to drill the trim it will fit on either side.
FWIW I've had 0 issues with the knock off and use it frequently. I did have to buy a shorter mounting bolt for the roof rail part of the mount. The 20mm supplied was too long. A 15mm was perfect.
Good call on going aftermarket. OEM ladder is weak. Mine broke with me on it after 2 years of frequent use. I use it a lot so miss having the bottom three rungs. Working on a fix.
