Did anyone else get just one key fob (plus a valet no-fob key) at delivery, with a letter explaining the chip shortage, and promise a second will be sent when available?

 

Yep. Lots of posts about it. It's a thing across many of the JLR brands. It's a "thing". I even challenged if it was Land Rover only and some folks reported the same in other manufacturers. Pretty "messed up" if you ask me.

 

Yes, I recently got another 2023 Defender, and it came with only one key fob. The dealer said that once they receive the other key fob, they will let me know so that it can be programmed to the car. Strange times we are living in!

Even though one key fob was delivered, I did get two keys albeit one without the fob. I assume if one was to lose the fob, the car can still be accessed and started with the non fob key.

 

I just took delivery Tuesday...one complete fob (fob with insert key) and one insert key. I am told the fob will come at some point. More annoying is the size of the fob.

Has anyone figured out a way to minimize what needs to be carried? Do you need to keep this in your pocket? Can you keep the fob in your car and use the phone app to get access? Any creative ideas?

 

Took delivery last November with one key fob. After 6 months, I called the dealer to check in, and they agreed to cover the cost and order the second one - somehow they were able to get one without issue. About a month ago, we got a recall letter about the shortage with instructions that the dealer would be able to provide a replacement.

 

I lost a key on my 2020 Defender and order a new one at the dealer (800 bucks with all of it... including the metal shank and programming). Took 3.5 mos to come in. Sigh.

 

Just bought a new defender yesterday they didn’t even tell me I would only get 1 key till I asked at the end of my paperwork. It’s highly inconvenient for our situation and that key is $800 they didn’t take off the price for that. Does anyone know a quicker way that they received their second key ? Any help would be appreciate
