I am using the Factory Cross Bars with the Yakima FatCat EVO 6 Ski/Snowboard Mount (Silver) attached with the Yakima SmartT-Slot Kit 2 T-Slot Adapter.
They are super low profile, especially with the SmarT-Slot Kit. Virtually zero wind noise, the sliver matches the factory cross bars perfectly. I would recommend this set up to anyone. I do have the factory ladder, which I use to put the skis on/off.

At a glance I can't tell what the slot adaptors are for (though I'm sure the guys at REI would likely know).
The FatCat EVO 6 comes with a clamp attachment that adds significant height to them, so I opted for the SmarT-Slot Kit mounting. The SmarT-Slot Kit is worth the extra money, it makes them lower profile and I feel they are mounted more securely.
The setup with the Yakima really does get tall with the clamp. There are T bolts for the slots on Amazon as well for a slightly better price. The alternative to the Land Rover bar is the Thule 47" Aeroblade, coupled with the 3040 fit kit and 7531 Fixpoint Foot, which you need two kits for that. The first kit is for two bars, the second is for one, I have no idea why. You can also fit the 53" Aeroblade if you want to have more side access. I have mine all the way over for easy access and a bit more overhang can make it easier still. The Fat Cat can be opened up for snowboards that have binding interference and take quite a thick board. The small stool is very helpful and the rear of the 90 is not a super spot to sit to pull on your boots and the stool helps with access to the rack. I ordered the Fitkit and feet from Bikeinn in Europe, they had stock and were half the price of anyplace in the USA. Just don't be in a hurry.
Do you think you could fit a coupe of boards in your 90 if you needed to? Maybe diagonally with the rear seats down?
Bruin - I decided to take the Defender to the slopes today. I included some pics for you to see how a board or two would fit. You'd certainly have more "trunk" space with the 110, but I didn't have any issues today.
I also don’t like carrying skiis off the back because of road grime. Even a short drive to the slopes in the morning leaves them covered with all kinds of muck. I have thuel roof bars and prefer the Thule slide top ski rack mounted directly with t nuts to keep it low profile. The slide top is critical to be able to reach the skiis without needing to climb up. The Defender is a tall beast.
I actually have the Thule 726 Slide Top, for me, it made the whole assembly too tall to get in my garage. Obviously your garage must be taller. It is available for cheap if anybody wants one, now surplus to my needs. Worked fine for me on the wife's Tiguan. It is a nice trouble free system.
