Quick update here: My detailer polished my rims but the scuff is still visible, although much less obvious. Would have to take it to a rim specialist for a perfect repair.
I added some 2x1 weather stripping foam (https://a.co/d/f2sjH55) between the cover and the wheel, but the foam is getting compressed so much that it's only a matter of time before it wears out. I'm curious if anyone has any other suggestions on how to create some padding between the cover and the wheel that will last.
DW has the car out of town so no pictures….but, I taped a thick sponge on the hard section of the cover low enough for it to sit against the tire, not the rim. Intent was to tilt the offending part up. I put a couple pieces of tape over the rub spots as indicators. Will take a look in a few days when she returns.
I've had a spare wheel cover on my last two Defenders ('21 P400SE and '23 P400X) and both came with a foam block on the inside of the cover to prevent rubbing/chafing......
As I wanted to add the spare tire cover and worried about scratching the new wheel on the back so this is what I did.
Mine is replica as LR never offered 75th green cover. I made sure to buy a version with foam then went to home depot bought the weather sealing felt roll attached with double sided tapes. I hope this can prevent any potential wheel damage.
