I think it is entirely feasible to have an adapter that would move the spare out about 1 1/2 inches and down 3 inches without hitting the bumper or obscuring the license/number plate.
You'd be adding weight and substantially increasing leverage. I'd imagine that the door hinges would sag (just like they did on old Defenders when people added heavy off-road wheels and tires to the standard mount.
I agree that it's perfectly feasible, but I predict you'd be back on here in 6-9 months asking why your rear door doesn't close properly.
I rotated my tires last weekend and each wheel and tire (steel 18" wheels plus factory Goodyear wranglers) weighs about 75 lbs and the safe weight limit of the door is reported to be 42kg (~92 lbs) - https://landroverforums.com/forum/20...-limit-112145/
Personally I wouldn't mess with adding too much weight and leverage - but there are plenty of people who disagree with me and you can see pics of them loading another 100lbs or so on top of their heavy spare wheel and tire
Hey mate. Just saw this pic. Re: the shovel mounts Do you have the "Rhino Rack STOW IT UTILITY HOLDER - LARGE" -- and do they just slide right into the factory roof rack rails? I'm going to figure out a better shovel mounting solution and like yours alot.
Hello, I use t-bolts that I cut down a bit so they don’t poke out the top. It holds it well.
I am getting it ready for my 2026 trip and will probably redo it a few times before I am happy with it.
I added a few other pictures. If you are looking for a drawer system I am selling mine as I ordered a new one that has 4 drawers.
