Default Spare tire bracket modification

I just posted this on the new member forum in error. Perhaps someone can assist me on this dilemma?

Hello to everyone! Just purchased a new (new to me) 04 Discovery. I've been reading up on all the great advice/contributions all you have posted. So I have some BFG KM2 tires on right now and just got the same tire on my spare wheel. I see that many of you did the 180 degree modification for the existing spare tire carrier. My question is, has anyone suffered any cracking leaning of the tire bracket over time?
I would like to do this, however, one of my friends is telling me with the weight of the spare tire/wheel combo on the original carrier, it may start to crack and ultimately fall off the gate itself, because it just isn't strong enough to hold an oversized tire. Any comments? Thanks in advance!!

I can't comment on flipping the bracket, but I know Atlantic British and others sell adapters for larger tires.

Mine's flipped. I sit/stand with my full weight on the spare on occasion. No issue.

There was a thread on here in just the last week or two about a heavy-duty replacement spare carrier that's strong enough and gives adequate clearance. Search is your friend.

I have to agree with Alex m. I sit on mine on camping trips all the time. FYI I am a fat bastard

I to had it flipped with 33’s and my trasharoo always packed with zero issues. One thing that I saw suffered on mine was the read door started to sag. Didn’t notice how bad it was until I got my tire carrier on. Then I noticed how smooth it closed when all the weight of the tire was removed. Do it!
