Question Squeegee sound when pressing park button or engaging D

Hi all,

Just noticed what I can best describe as a squeegee type squeak sound when I press the P button or engage into drive. It's coming from the rear wheel area. Maybe its always done it but I noticed this today with my drivers window down while parking in the garage.

Thanks

I think that's probably the parking brake engaging / disengaging... right?

(when you are in park, it automatically *also* puts on the parking brake in addition to the transmission being in park/park pawl)

Oh...is that it? I didn't realize the parking brake automatically engaged/disengaged when shifting between park and drive. I do however use the auto hold feature while driving so I don't need to keep my foot on the brake at red lights, but that makes no noise whatsoever when it automatically engages.

May also be rear fuse box . Does it happen when turning wheels lock to lock or when enabling heated windshields front or rear?

I don’t believe ‘Auto brake hold’ engages the emergency parking brake when employed. That’s why you don’t hear the sound of the actuator and hydraulics when using that function.

not really WTF, it just keeps the brakes pressed like you do with your foot for you.

I have sometimes turned it off, I got used to it driving EVs primarily as most of them do that. However pulling the Defender into the garage without running into my power tools at the front between auto - off and brake hold it gets to be quite the herky jerky dance.

Did you figure out what this was after all? It gets worse as you may have experienced. When I noticed mine doing it about two years ago coincidentally it wouldn’t make the noise when I’d take it in to the dealership while it was still under warranty. Sort of like when you take your sick kid to the doctor and all of a sudden they’re fine. Now it’s even louder and does it ever. single. time. Also mildly when switching from park to drive. It is annoying and sort of embarrassing to be honest. It’s like my car farts and turns heads every single time people are around. A squeegee is the best way to describe it. Or like when you’re parked on a super glossy floor and turn the wheels and hear a squeak. Sigh.
