Steering wheel locked, but the rest seems ok.

I'm not so sure, sblvro. It may indeed work with just the battery disconnect, but I'm not sure anyone's tried that. I think the faulty codes need to be cleared before it'll reconnect, and their diagnostic tool is needed for that.

Fingers crossed we're both ok.
Did you ever hear back from your dealer about the other owner having the same issue (you'd said their's was a software reboot rather like mine)?

$0 - all under warranty.
The service rep said they were not able to replicate the issue at the dealership for the other vehicle that came in with the same issue. The other car was towed to the dealership workshop but they are telling me the issue was somehow resolved by the next day when the technician looked at the car. They updated its software without replacing any parts for the other car.
Hoping it’s a permanent fix and a one-time event.

With two people reporting a similar issue, perhaps this should be reported to the NHTSA as has been done with the spontaneous windshield cracks.
It's great that the dealer acknowledged it and reset it but that likely won't make it back to JLR in a meaningful way.
It's very easy to report and it may end up preventing an accident one day.

ya, same thing happened to me twice after os3.0. Got in, turned on, steering was impossible. Wouldnt move for a few seconds until resolving itself. Im gonna report as well. LR needs to seriously figure their **** out. I drive around my family and wouldn’t be thrilled if this were to spontaneously happen at 60 mph.
