At least we have a temporary fix if it happens on the road.

I'm not so sure, sblvro. It may indeed work with just the battery disconnect, but I'm not sure anyone's tried that. I think the faulty codes need to be cleared before it'll reconnect, and their diagnostic tool is needed for that.

Default Update on fix

They ended up replacing the steering-control-module. Service rep called it the “steering rack”

That steering gear is a $2700 part! Yikes!

Thanks for posting. Glad you got yours fixed. My dealer didn't do any component replacing, so it'll be interesting to see if mine repeats the lock-up, and it it does I'll mention your dealer's worksheet.

Fingers crossed we're both ok.

Did you ever hear back from your dealer about the other owner having the same issue (you'd said their's was a software reboot rather like mine)?

$0 - all under warranty.

The service rep said they were not able to replicate the issue at the dealership for the other vehicle that came in with the same issue. The other car was towed to the dealership workshop but they are telling me the issue was somehow resolved by the next day when the technician looked at the car. They updated its software without replacing any parts for the other car.

Hoping it’s a permanent fix and a one-time event.

Default Locked steering

I am having this issue with my 2021 Defender and I'm very frustrated. I didn't drive it for 7 days and got in, started it, and locked steering. Everything else works fine. Grrr

Did you try disconnecting the battery - as described in the service report?

There's a service report?

It's very easy to report and it may end up preventing an accident one day.

ya, same thing happened to me twice after os3.0. Got in, turned on, steering was impossible. Wouldnt move for a few seconds until resolving itself. Im gonna report as well. LR needs to seriously figure their **** out. I drive around my family and wouldn’t be thrilled if this were to spontaneously happen at 60 mph.
