Default Strange discoloration on silver bumpers

I’ve had the truck for 4 months and never saw anything like this. I was away for a week with the truck outside. When I returned I found this. Nothing from chemicals to polish to hard water spot remover make any impact.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I have never seen this before but based on drop patterns it looks like a chemical of some sort that ended up discoloring where the drops made contact. I’d contact your insurance company because there’s no doubt Land Rover would deny this as a defect and warranty issue. I’d assume since nothing works in removing the spots those parts would need to be completely replaced. Contact each asap so you know your best path forward. But I wouldn’t blame LR for this because that does look like a chemical stain of some sort. Sucks and sorry

Maybe from road salt. A bit of mud or some more road salt should cover it up nicely.

Hmm. I would try something like a cleaner wax to see if it removes it (very light polish -- via hand with microfiber towels or whatever you have on hand). Try something like this - it's actually a good albeit cheap parts store product -- https://www.meguiars.com/automotive/...6-16-oz-liquid

Your pics remind me 110% of what happened on the early L322 Range Rovers up to 2009 or so, there was grey / silver painted pieces on the cowl between hood and windshield, and lettering hood/tailgate that discolored EXACTLY like this with car wash chemicals, salt, etc.

I have noticed on my 110 X, which has a different color than yours, that if I let bug goo or whatever sit on the front bumper pieces, I get spots, they come right out though with a bit of the cleaner wax.

ours had those kind of spots over the summer, I think it may have been from the car wash soap I used to hand wash. I used a very gentle/safe wax and that helped.

@MattF there were some other comments on here about salt marks on the silver bumpers. Comments were about road salt but with you and me both living across the street from Long Island Sound have me concerned.....I am wondering if there is something we need to do to protect them?

Would love to hear from anyone with any suggestions on how to protect them.

very much appreciate the ideas but mine was ceramic coated from new. Also in the 4 months I’ve owned the truck this is the first time I’ve see this. There’s also no other signs like this on any other part of the truck like the glass sunroof, mirrors etc. Its a puzzle and will be interesting to see how LR responds next month when I bring it it. More to come.

if you want to ensure protection they can be ppf’d. I’ll probably do that once resolved

I was able to determine the window cleaner fluid caused this on our rig. Luckily hitting it with speed wax and some drying time the spots were gone.

My bumper is gloss black so I am not certain that the finish on your bumper would be protected by ceramic coating. I agree with the previous posts about washing and doing a light polish or wax. You can't go wrong with any of the Griot's polishes. It looks like mineral deposits from hard water that formed after drying. If the truck is coated, use a blower to remove most water after washing.

Following up on this thread. Nothing I tried (and I'm an avid detailer) would remove these spots. Then after a long drive to VT and back in the rain... like magic they were gone. I've never seen nor experienced anything like it.

Thank you all

Matt
