Default Tire rotation, yes or no?

Saw some people say tire rotations/alignment are no longer recommended by LR? With full-time 4wd isn't tire rotations not useful unless you're trying to work in the 5th tire?

I'm at 20k miles without a rotation so...I'm wondering if there's any point

It's arguably even more important on an AWD/4WD vehicle, even more so if you are running heavier A/T tires or M/T

Adding 20% to the life of a set by making use of all 5 tires is a no brainer.

Having 4 old scrubbed tires and an unused spare with perhaps a different radius (after wear on the others) is less than wise.

LR have tire rotation in their service schedule every 21k miles. Far too long. I'm rotating mine much more than that.. Takes me about about 40 minutes.

I understand your point about getting 20% more life out of my tires if I rotate in the spare - however isn't it too late to rotate my spare in at 20k miles anyways? I don't have the car on me so I can't check, but my main 4 tires are at least half worn down by now.

Also could you link the service schedule with tire rotations mentioned? For some reason the LR iGuide doesn't have any mention on tire rotations

Having not rotated mine ever (47,500 miles now and close to sunsetting the original Wrangler Adventure AT tires) I completely agree with @GavinC. I now have a never-used spare tire and since I got different reference tires for the next set, that one is probably going to be living the rest of its life stored somewhere. Could have gotten another 12,000 miles out of my first set instead. Anyway...

What's the current difference in thread depth between the spare and the rest on yours?

No difference. They're all used and abused equally.

Love the wheels @GavinC . Sorry, thread depth question was for the OP, given he is wondering if it might be too late to start rotating,

I do mine every 6 months and rotate in the spare. If you don't and have a flat, your spare is going to be a different size to other tires and will cause issues.

I have the Goodyear Wranglers and after 20,000 miles they are barely showing any tread wear, so I doubt yours are half used. I'll probably replace them at 5 or 6 years rather than wait for them to be bald.

Spare is new and the rest are 7/32.

Have you noticed any issues after not rotating for 47k miles? If I could start over I'd just do a 5-tire rotation like a normal person but I kept putting it off and now I'm here Talking

Since this thread is current, would anyone care to weigh in on how to effect a 5-tire rotation? In old school days, it was simple enough to swap any wheel to any position, but with today’s directional tires, and some marked inside/outside, I would like to hear how others are accomplishing this.

No issues at all and they are all fairly evenly worn. I had a similar scenario with the Disco a couple years back. Had put new tires and within a year one of them got a flat that deemed it unusable. I went back and forth but ultimately only changed the one tire as the thread difference was only a couple 32nds.
