I would tell the dealer, “if you’re going to rob me, at least point a gun at me so I don’t feel like I’m handing my cash over willingly. Especially when this is what one should be paying for a draw bar.
Agree. I have plenty of draw bars that will work. Right now I'm waiting for the VPLET0278 Module Control which are back ordered. None of the dealers seem to know when they'll become available.
Why would you order/buy a Defender without a trailer hitch?
If it is any situation like mine, I didn't really have a choice. I bought mine while it was on the boat because there wasn't anything around that had all of the items I wanted.

Sorry I posted that now. Glad to know nobody ever paid more than they should have for something. I posted this to show what it costs from the dealer. If you’re worried about $500 you shouldn’t have an $80,000 truck.
@crcjr1963 - Thank you for posting that. I wasn't trying to criticize (I'm grateful for the insight). I just think the things some Dealers do is amazing and appreciate your lesson as a heads up. Personally, I guy a lot as a "package deal" and could care less the details if I think the entire thing is what I'm willing to pay.
Yeah but the OEM drawbar is probably made from recycled Gen 1 Discovery parts so it rusts from the inside out. Can't underestimate the value of 'provenance' and old-timey British patina!
$468 for a draw bar!?! WTF!! I would have handed it back across the counter and asked for a refund for that.
Whew. I will gladly pay a premium for Land Rover products that I drive with pride. But come on. That's about as common as it gets in the towing biz. This is a prime example of sliding something related to RVs, Motorhomes and Trailers into the bill at etrailer, hoping no one notices. I bet the majority of customers don't even know what a "draw bar" is when they look at the invoice. Thanks for posting this. It was better than caffeine at waking me up this morning.
Has anyone here installed a tow hitch on their EV6? If so, where did you get it and what type of hitch did you go with? I'm not planning on towing anything—just need it for carrying our bikes. The dealership is quoting nearly $1,500 for the factory hitch installation.
If you asked nicely, you could get it for free. Mine was. That was a different time at JLR, I guess they are stingy now. Branded accessories are always more expensive. Really, it costs a fortune to put a logo on a product. Think of all the meetings.
The $10,000 toilet seat or hammer. Always misleading on those reports. One of my compatriots in the AEDO (Aviation Engineering Duty Officer) world was assigned to the facility where the infamous $10,000 hammer occurred. What they failed to point out is theAir Force required the hammer be put in their high altitude test chamber, since it had a fibre handle. The order was for 10 fly away tool kits for C-141's and only the hammer had to be tested, since it had that dangerous wooden handle. The Air Force Billed $70,000 for the test run. Factor in lodging, travel, meals, Overhead G&A accounting cost, yep $10,000 more like they gave them the hammer for free. Heck the ash trays on the C2 & E2 aircraft cost $800 each. They make almost 10 a year.
I purchased the factory hitch and installed myself. It actually replaces the rear bumper core and strengthens the rear of the vehicle. It is not a simple bolt on like a U-Haul or Curt might have. Even if you find a third party I would suggest you look at how it mounts compared to the factory. The factory bumper core is aluminum instead of steel, so I wouldn't feel comfortable mounting a hitch to it.
