Default Using shims on LR towball kit?

Hi. I got the factory towing receiver and bought the genuine towball kit. There is *alot* of play between the receiver and the towball insert so that if towing something, it really knocks about and the audible knocking about is quite annoying.
I then noticed there are some shims in the towball box but it explicitly says that these are not required if using the genuine tow receiver. This confused me because it does seem like it needs something.
Why do they not have the receiver and towball fit together properly to prevent it knocking all over the place?

There are several ways to "fix" this:
1 - get used with the sound ... sucks
2 - duct tape and will quite it (for a while ) till the duct tape wears out.
3 - shims ( that is too funny the provided that )
You will not find a snug fit anywhere, on any vehicle. Tighter, yes, but no noise ? nope.
Why ? because of rust. So, think about this: when it will rust in place, and it will, there is no way you can pull that out. Also the tolerances for those parts are not the best of the fittest in the world.
I carry on with me at all times, on all my vehicles. Trust me, after 2-3 months, you get used to it. Some times when I don't have my vehicle and I drive a rental, it seems strange not to hear something in the back.

No need to put up with rattling hitch. I've used these with much success, be sure to check tightness of nuts on a regular basis.

Thanks for the explanation.

My Thule bike rack has a rattle screw in from the side and that stops the sway, but not the up and down rock so I'll look into this thanks.

That is a fancy solution ... but I am too redneck for it ... duct tape and wire for me
Seriously now, I may use this ! Learned something new today.
