Default Tow hitch

How do you attach a tow hitch bike rack to the new Discovery? Is there a simple tow hitch receiver attachment for the car like the LR4 has? Or do you need to install the full tow package?

I got my Discovery with the tow package. I went looking for a hitch after you asked the question. Can’t find an aftermarket one yet. This is the problem with being an early adopter.

New owner of a LR5 here.

Mine came without the tow kit so I spent some time looking up what I need and bought everything.
* To note here is that there are 3 kits - This is the only one listed as US specification.
* The other ones are the hidden version that clicks in on auto drops down - I love the standard look better

Everything should arrive this week and I plan on installing it this weekend and can post pics if people want.

Items Ordered:
Main Kit - VPLRT0174
Tow H Cover in my color - LR083034 (there are 3 different color options here LR082881, LR083033, LR083035, LR083034)
Towbar Hitch - VPLRT0177

Installation Instructions:
LAND ROVER ACCESSORY FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

Says it needs to be programmed so will see if SDD can do it when its all setup./

Just purchased the tow receiver. Can i use any aftermarket tow bar/hitch for under $100 or do I need to purchase the LR one for $400+?

Also, will I need to have the stealership reprogram for towing?

I will see if it requires re program or if I can use my SSD to make it work'

PS you can get the tow kit for way less than 400 on fleabay, think I payed 260 for mine new

Just installed the Tow hitch receiver + ebay side steps. Took about 3 hours combined. There are two bolts which I were not able to install because of the exhaust. Otherwise the install is very straight forward.

Still wondering if I need to do the SSD at the dealers. I'm not sure what it would do.

My biggest beef about the LR5 or Disco 5 is the pathetic towing load which is now abysmal after the LR4/D4 and D2 3500kgs tow load. The price of fuel economy and progress I guess.

My mistake, correction, it's the Discovery Sport with the abysmal towing capacity of max 2200kgs.

"For matching purposes, there's little difference in the weight of the Land Rover Discovery Sport with the new 2.0-litre engine. The updated model has a kerbweight of 1884kg, giving an 85% match figure of 1601kg. The legal towing limit (2200kg) and towball limit (100kg) are unchanged."

Your stated estimate of 3700kgs might be acceptable in the US but not in Europe where the tow limit is 3500kgs max.
