Wow! you guys are the best! I do live in New England and yesterday was an eye opener for me, thank you all for all your input. Need to do some thinking here
Nothing as good as a dedicated set of winter boots if you drive in the snow a lot.
Triple peak rated is a very low bar and a minimally useful metric to assess the efficacy of a tire.
Dec-March I run a set of Blizzaks 275/55 R20 as I’m on snow a lot.
*This year we’ve not had a winter so I could have shod my car with bananas and been fine
Blizzaks are great in cold weather snow slush road salt ice mix etc. on days when you need every scrap of grip, I’m very glad of them.
KO2s the rest of the year. They have triple peak rating but as they have such a hard rubber compound their grip on highway hard pack is nowhere near that of a full winter.
This is my 5th winter on this set of Blizzaks. Probably their last.
I'm also in New England. I run the Nokians on a 20 inch wheel on my 130X
They are the same winter wheels I used on my old Discovery. You can easily buy a set cheap on eBay. I would downsize to 20inch for sure
While you could just go decent grip non dedicated winter tire, I much prefer the confidence of the winter tires. I was out during at storm last week and again yesterday and zero issues.
Also on dedicated wheels it's v easy to swap over in spring and autumn
I too am in New England and run dedicated winter tires. I run 19s so the options are limited, but I'm on season two with the Michelin X-Ice Snow and they seem to work pretty good. Like a hot knife through butter...

Same here - Michelin X-Ice on 19s for the winter. Happy with the Michelins so far, one season in.
The only good use for the 19s is as a dedicated winter set. I run 18" wheels for the remainder of the year.
Everyone has a favorite. I ran the Nokian WRG line on my LR4 for 13 years. Amazing tire, grips hard in the summer, excellent hydroplaning prevention and its snowflake rated for snow. However its NOT a snow tire and when we moved from NY to VT I used Hakkapeliitta as a winter tire. Excellent! I live in SC now and when the Pirelli Scorpions that came with my 25 X-Dynamic need replacing I will go back to the Nokian's. The WRG All Weather line I mentioned is now called the Remedy WRG5.
