What happens 'in port'?
Does anyone here know what work is done to the trucks when they get to port? I read of things which are installed or completed 'in port' and curious to know how much work this is?
In my case, my dealer offered to have the classic mud flaps (all around) installed 'in port' for a lot less $$ than if he had to install them locally---so just curious as to the scale of the 'port' operation and what they do to the trucks there before putting them on carriers to get them to our local dealerships.
I (along with others) am on the Morning Lynn which is due to get to Baltimore late Weds night.....

my understanding is they inspect the car, confirm the emission setup complies with the importing country's regs (if applicable), repair any scratches and dents that might have happened en route, and add/install any options to the car not added at the factory. my dealer couldn't confirm which specific options get installed at factory vs. the port and that it varied from vehicle to vehicle and port to port, but said it could include things like racks, decals, mud flaps, scuff plates, carriers, body and paint protection, etc.
yeah, too many variables to know for sure. mine seemed to get out of the port and turned over to transport pretty quickly, but then took (what seemed like) forever (but was only a few days) to go a few hundred miles up the road to the dealer. but i hear ya. patience has never been my greatest virtue. good luck.
Mine sat in "port" for nearly a month. It was waiting for a "Telemetrics Cable." And god knows what else. It appeared that the cable was one made in Ukraine, so apparently they had to get it out via transport dogs across the border or some other such nonsense. Story goes on, gets to dealer, cable is not quite right, must wait for another. At least the boat didn't burn and sink enroute.

mine shot through in a day, i think it's a crap shoot really. I came into Baltimore, based on when the ship docked and my dealer they had it 72 hours later in NC and I had it that Friday.
