2024 Defender 110 HSE X-Dynamic

When I turn the fan up above level 2 there is a high pitched whistling noise. This increases as you turn the fan up higher.

Dealer has investigated and says it's from the heater box itself and they say they now need the car for at least a week and intend to remove the entire dashboard to get to it.

It being a brand new car I'm VERY nervous about this. From experience with past JLR vehicles, as soon as you start doing this kind of thing you end up with other problems. Be that rattles and noises or even electrical issues.

Does anyone have any advice? Has anyone come across this issue themselves? What would you do in my position?

I can report that mine did this all winter on speeds 6 and 7. Seems to have gone away with warm weather.

Maybe leave it for a couple of months and see if the noise disappears.

 

Mine does this every now and then. It goes away when I adjust the fan down and then back up, or I have noticed it will go away on its own after a few mins. Not worth taking the dash apart in my opinion.

 

Make sure all the vent thumbwheels are set to the most open position. If I close any of the front vents even a little, the whistling starts.
