Why won't my Defender's software update?
.
To the op, did you read that thread I linked. There were quotes from a JLR engineer about the updates. I forget if it was him or someone else who said you had to have either 2.1.6 or 2.1.7 before it would update to 3.0.
Any chance you've got bad cell reception there and that's keeping you from it?

I did read through that thread, thanks for posting. It seems I am 4 'versions' behind. My cell coverage in the area where I live is a bit weak but the car moves in and out of areas with good coverage all the time. I have pretty good WiFi at the house and WiFi is 'enabled' in the Defender's setting s menu but it never asks me to select a network much less enter the password for it. My phone will pick up multiple WiFi networks at once.

you’re not necessarily four versions behind, the software updates don’t work that way. Some versions are specific to certain configurations and you won’t get those, you don’t progress from 2.1.3 to 2.1.7 in four increments. One thing that seems to help is to go on a long drive. I’ve tended to have updates show up after longer drives, and you also need your battery to be above a certain minimum charge level to have the updates apply.
Ever since then, I haven't had any software over-the-air updates. I wonder once your memory is full, if you can't get updates anymore. I believe I am currently on version 1.9.2. So I don't have version 3.0 but I am bringing in my vehicle to the service dept on December 11, 2021. I am hoping that they can fix my memory issue and upgrade me to version 3.0
Has anyone else on here at the "memory full" warning?----------------------------------------------------------

Anyone have an update on this? It's been months now and my truck still hasnt updated to 3.0.
I'd take it to the dealer, but it's kind of inconvenient for me, and my experience with them in the past is that they'll throw their hands in the air and not have an answer.

The two things that I think have helped push updates to my car:
1) Charge the battery. This car seems more sensitive than most to battery drain, and if you aren't doing the miles it drains. It does not seem to charge well via driving alone, and you can tell because it wants shut down quicker when the engine is off, so I top it up. Updates for me tend to pop up when I've recently topped up the battery; and
2) Go on a decently long drive. The car seems to prefer getting updates via its own cellular connection rather than my rock solid, fast home wifi.
Either way, I got 3.0 pretty quickly and all the updates before that pretty quickly.

Based on an email from JLR telling me about wireless CarPlay being available with the latest 3.0 update, I began to investigate when to expect the update (it is a phased rollout apparently--no idea why) and also what version of software my car is running. The vehicle in question in a 2020 110 that I bought in October '20 and it seems to be running version 2.0.3 last installed in December 2020. I understand that before upgrading to 3.0, you have to be already running 2.1.6 or 2.1.7. I seem to vaguely recall the car asking for an update at some point that never seemed to successfully download but I'm not entirely sure of this. Why is my car so many versions behind? And how do I 'force' an update so to speak?
This is especially annoying as my wife took the car to the dealer to have one of Land Rover's sweet auto cracking windshields replaced (which JLR refused to warranty despite zero evidence of any impact and an experienced glass tech stating the same) and while there I had the vehicle serviced and requested that it be updated to the latest software version as the PiviPro is glitchy at times. They clearly decided to disregard this request but did manage to chip the paint on my driver's door and break part of the windshield trim for me, so that was a nice bonus.
edit: correction, I am running 2.1.3
How do I get this stupid car to update? Wireless CarPlay might just save this hunk of garbage from being sold to CarMax. Maybe.

If you are unable to receive updates there is a rare instance when we cannot communicate with the vehicle due to a receiver error. However, you can go the retailer and have the software updated manually.
Super helpful. My dealership claims they cannot 'push' updates. JLR customer service phone number is useless. I've given up. At least the thing is not on fire in my driveway. With a Land Rover, that is winning.
In order to update software over the air you need the following things:
1) The actual permission to receive the updates needs to be enabled, so go through all your settings and make sure you've not got anything related to data switched off.
2) The vehicle needs to be able to receive the update. If the vehicle has never received a proper update or can no longer receive an update you might have a faulty TCU (Telematic Control Module). If so this should be replaced under warranty.
3) Properly charged battery (a weak battery could trigger the system to avoid a major update). Throw a battery tender on it and top it off. It's good for the car in general even if it doesn't solve this particular issue. You'd be amazed how much trouble a weak battery can cause on modern vehicles. And yes, a battery can be weak and not show as low in your warnings.
4) Data access (vehicle is in a reasonable location). I assume the vehicle is not parked somewhere where data transfer could be difficult? How does AT&T data strength look at your house?
Now if you can check all these things and can confirm that your settings are correct, the battery is good and you have good data access then the ball falls in our court to check our ability to push updates to your particular VIN. Which I'm willing to assist with- privately.
Lastly, if you're interested in what changes took place with each version of the Land Rover software you can see that at the Land Rover website: https://www.landrover.com/ownership/...re-update.html
I'll leave it to you to decide how to proceed.
