Well, that is some how true:
- the vehicle has 2 different data "paths" ( SIM or eSIM // in US is eSIM only)
- one eSIM is for telematics ( is there and always active )
- the other eSIM is for your data : music, weather, etc.
The WiFi - should be visible in the "settings" of the vehicle if you have the feature.
Now, if you got charged the $360 ish it means that the wifi and data plan / hardware should have been there.
Dealer can change the unit out, with one that is equipped with a WiFi module, if indeed yours is missing.
Try first to see if you can get a MAC address from your unit in the settings

Oh, thank you for confirming the two data paths...and yes, I'm US spec so have the eSIM and not the card slot. On the wifi, I've seen the wifi option and settings in the menu at times- I posted a pic in this thread from when it was there, but it was an earlier version of the pivi software and isn't listed in the menu at present...and yes, I DO have a mac address and the 'connected to AT&T' toggle in connectivity.
...but I guess where I'm confused is what each data path is used for and what those are called. JLR claims radio and weather data uses the same path as navigation and the emergency call feature. If so then the online pack with data plan is for what exactly- just for phone/device connectivity for the hotspot?
...and as my Defender was an early build I didn't pay the $360 charge for the online pack with data plan because the feature was listed as standard equipment on the online build. I have the original build sheet from my dealer it is listed there and is printed in the standard equipment list on the Monroney....but so far JLR is claiming my dealer didn't order the equipment on my build, and you didn't pay for it, so sorry you're out of luck...
OK - try this:
1- do you see an SSID ( your WiFi "name" ) of your vehicle ?
YES - we can troubleshoot from here on ( need to talk to your tech at the dealership about "share secrets" and the latest SW update - he will know what that is
NO - you do not have the hardware in place and IF you have it on your build, they need to get you a replacement
2 - I see that you see the ATT network which is some how good.
But that could be because you have the telematics on ( LOGIC ) .... see attached picture
Let's see how much info can you gather, and we can follow from there ... What you may be missing is the CREATIVE.

This is very helpful, too! So-
1- No. There's currently no hotspot option and I can't see SSID in my current software version 2.1.0. Hotspot toggle and SSID have been available in earlier software versions but I've never been able to connect. The vehicle always connects to my home network via wifi. It has no problem with the OTA updates, either...
2- It would seem that yes, the AT&T connection is perhaps for the telematics only BUT I have had (intermittent) connectivity of the native entertainment apps until the latest update so there's CREATIVE connectivity at least some of the time...
OK, that is a step forward(ish). Why ? If you have seen the WiFi before, then that is a good thing. It seems that the hardware is in place.
Here is what I would do if I was you: go back to the dealer where you bought your vehicle from. Ask them to enable a data plan for you - like you are buying it.
If they say yes, then ... they will have to some how fix it / enable it on that ID.
If they say no, then pull out the original order, where WiFi was stated, and ask them to clarify.
I think ( and I am not a LR specialist - just my past experiences here ) that you MAY have the hardware, and (a) you may not have the data plan purchased - the 360 $, and (b) when the software update was applied, it looked at your profile and have seen that you do not have a data plan... and then disable it / or made it invisible - inactive to you.
Try this and keep us posted. I would hate to be you, but please keep us posted, this is very interesting and could help a lot of ppl on this forum. Best of luck to you.

Thanks so much. Will do. Hopefully this helps others here too...
What legal department? There is so much language in the Owner's manual and the agreements around the Arbitration process that they don't need no stinkin' lawyers!! (That was all bitter, sarcasm btw....)
