Windshield crack from heat (?)

Not delivery, but I'm signed up for all day at Asheville Nov 18th! Woohoo. I even reserved their truck, which is just like mine (P400, 110, off-road and advanced off-road packs). I'll send you a picture. Hopefully windshield is intact. 'Cuz mine looks like...

Youre going to love it. I did it in January with Aaron. Now I have a defender to be delivered this weekend. What a special treat!

Sunroof Cracked
Yup, I was ready to set up for a trip today, waiting with the engine idling in my driveway, and I heard a cracking noise. Sure enough, it was my windshield.
The Defender was outside for about 2 hrs, in the sun. Outside temp - 95 deg.
I am not sure who manufactures the windshields for JLR, but since 2018 I had about 5 that cracked either from a pebble size rock, in the sun, or just plain tension in the glass.
Not sure if there is ANY other manufacturer in the world with such horrible windshields.

Saga comes to an end ! ( or does it ... ? )
So... here is the scoop.
I picked the car today with a brand new, recently washed windshield !
The tech told me that I ate up their quota for the year.
How so ? I said....
"Well, it took us 2 windshields. One broke right after was set, sitting on the vehicle"
Let me repeat that : after it was set, sitting on the vehicle...
I was honestly shocked. Needless to say that they were not happy either, not because of me, but because the next available ones would take months to arrive.
So, there is something with these windshields.
I thought I was the most unlucky (windshield related) dude, but nope .... I feel better now (not really)....

If a windshield spontaneously self-destructs, I'm thinking that is a safety problem. The integrity of the class is now suspect. It's difficult to see and can really make hazardous road conditions worst. If true, I think the best thing people can do is to start reporting the problems to NHSTA (assuming these are U.S. windows having all these issues). If enough complaints are filed for a specific vehicle with a specific issue, they will start an investigation. I'm not a data scientist, but it seems that there is enough anecdotal stories that something's wrong here.
Here's the link to start the complaints (Link). If enough people complain, it will trigger an investigation. If significant, a recall will be declared and JLR will be forced to cure.
If your windshield has shattered (other than the tree limb falling on it) spontaneously, you should fill out that link. You'll need your VIN.

I confirmed from three reputable glass installers (including safelite) that none are able to obtain windshield glass for the 2020 Defender, except for the JLR dealer.
So, I just paid my local dealer $1100 to order the correct windshield (UV coated, no heat, no heads up display). The dealer will then order the glass and it should arrive in 3 days to the dealer, at which point I will pick it up and transport it to the installation vendor (one recommended by the JLR dealer). Installation will be $200 or so, I have been told.
My insurance deductible is $1000, so I am going to fund the change out of pocket and avoid a claim.
I have 11,500 miles on the vehicle. I do sincerely hope we will not be paying 10 cents a mile to cover recurring glass replacement. Still smells fishy to me.
Enjoy !
