With all the stories of window chips / cracks and the long lead-times for replacements, has anyone gone down the route of a windshield protection film (Exoshield, Clearplex, or other)? I got a quote for $350, but he warned that if you ever have salt/sand on the windshield and use the wipers it can scratch the Exoshield - that is making me reconsider and question the efficacy of the film.

 

in the thread below @Tartan mentioned he uses this product ShatterX and has had success with it. I am thinking about trying it when I get mine. All the reports of broken windshields are definitely concerning.

I was talking to a detailing service last week here in AU and was mentioned that it may be illegal and insurance may not cover if you get in an accident. Something you may want to check if is the case where you are.
