Wireless charging issues with iPhone 12

Hi all,
Not sure if anyone else is having the issue, but my iPhone 12 mini will not charge on the wireless charging pad in my Defender. At first, I thought it was the car, but the dealer confirmed it must be something with iPhone 12s. None of the iPhone 12s I tried at home will work on the charging pad, but the dealer could put an Android, and three other models of iPhones on the charging pad and they all worked.
The phone will light up when placed on the pad, but will not show the lightning bolt for more than a few seconds. The indicator on the Pivi screen has a diagonal line though it.
In the end, they could not find an issue with the car and said it must be a iPhone 12 issue. Anyone else have the same issue?
Rob

yes, same for my 12 pro max. it's also discussed on the other defender forum.
same phone on 5 other form factors qi chargers in my house work fine with the phone. so, it appears to specifically be something with the 12 and the defender. i don't have a iphone 11 to test with.

Apple released iOS 14.2which includes a fix for an issue in which "devices could be prevented from charging wirelessly." Presumably, this should fix many of the issues mentioned here. If not, the built-in charger might need to receive a firmware update and that's up to LR. For what's worth, the 14.2 iOS update fixed the problem for my iPhone 12 Pro.

so, after reading on a volvo forum and seeing most of their models also exhibit the same behavior i noted what one person mentioned about slowly lowering the phone onto the pad then pausing when it shows charging. this prompted me to try a small shim between the phone and pad. this is just a temporary trial run here, but right now it looks promising.
i grabbed a random little sheet of sticky fuzzy pads i had lying around. i lifted the rubber mat up and placed the sheet under there and laid the mat back down. after a number of times removing my phone and laying it back down it starts charging 100% of the times i tried (and keeps charging). prior to putting it under the mat i just laid the sheet on top of the mat and drove around like that today and saw it would always charge without issue.
a pic and before and after videos of what i'm trying to explain above.
