Won't update
All,
My 2023.5 Defender won't install the latest update. Every time it tries it says there was insufficient battery to perform the installation. No other issues, I drive the car regularly (a lot). Voltage certainly isn't low and it hasn't discharged.
Ideas?

No ideas. But I feel your frustration. I've tried leaving the car on charge while connected to wifi, after a long drive, etc., etc. No luck. After about 3 months of trying, I just ignore the prompt and don't think about it.
Put your car on a battery charger overnight. A trickle charger did not work for me but a regular 25amp charger worked like a charm. Update will not install on a vehicle with a seemingly not fully charged battery
The mild hybrids are notorious for having charging issues for updates. I highly recommend getting a CTEK and running it as long as it takes to fully recon the battery and top it up. It usually takes a long over-night.
i have a 2022 defender X for 3 years now. this car always has an issue with battery draw. i have had times when it would not finish the update and gave the same message that there was insufficient battery charge. this was even the caae when i took delivery. i ordered the car and kept track of the assembly and delivery. just the trip from slovakia to ohio drained the battery too much to do an update. i went out of state and left the car in my garage only to come home to a dead battery. nothing was on by the way and there has been no aftermarket items added. there are a loit of littlle items that are directly affected by battery charge. in the past i was able to charge the battery and then it would install the update. by the way, there are 2 steps to these software updates. first is to download it to the car and second is to install it on the car. it does not need wi-fi to download the updates. that happens over the air. it does not need wi-fi to install it either. after getting back to town i had a notification that there was an update available so i accepted it. then when i set it to install i got the battery message. i charged it and tried again. 6 times 6 failures. i even drove it for a while to help that. i charged it from the terminals under the hood and that didn't work so i opened the battery box under the passenger seat and charged it directly. that didn't work either. i will say that even when the battery is fully charged and you just open the door it will discharge the battery quite a lot. probably just that will prevent the update. finally i put the charger on it, brought it to full charge, and left that battery charger on it. i then set the install for a later time to allow for the charger to compensate for the door openings and setting up the computer, etc and locked it up. this morning, after 2 weeks of trying, it finally installed the update. so again, put the charger on it, bing it to full charge. set the install time for at least a couple hours later, keep the charger on it. and let it do it's thing. also do not depend on a trickle charger.
hope this helps.
hope this helps.
Dont depend on a trickle charger is great advise. additionally you need to use a charger that is meant for an AGM battery, They are different and do make a difference.

I had the same thing happen on my car earlier in the year. Mine is the P300, so no MHEV system to worry about, but my dealer ended up replacing the battery under warranty and I was then able to install the update. No issues since
On our 2021 with a 3-year old battery, the software updates would not load due to a weak battery. But the battery passed some JLR threshold test so it could not be replaced under warranty. Total BS situation. If it's too weak to do software updates, it should be a warranty issue. But my cheap dealership that got bought by some conglomerate that owns hundreds of dealership nationwide wouldn't budge. So I ended-up paying for a new battery since I don't want my family stranded the day its too weak to start the car.
