Hope some non-rover content is ok while mine is down for the count. Had a fun outing over the weekend in my old Dodge. Water was way up, ended up doing some water crossings. Drowned the motor a couple times. Hydrolocked it once, but pulled the plugs and cleared the cylinders out, motor is still fine. Going to be changing up the air cleaner setup to be more sealed off before next time, and waterproofing the ignition system. I actually hydro'd it on the smallest hole I hit. Only about 15". Just washed right into the air cleaner.
Stock suspension on 33" tires. LSD in the rear end, welded front end. 318 with ported heads/intake, .454 lift @270* duration cam. Granny gear 4 speed.
Suspension is changing soon. Not lifting, but longer leaf springs and shackle flip in the rear for more articulation and deleting the 4" factory lift block in the rear. Axle wrap has been a bad issue.
Here's the current air cleaner setup. I'm gonna be getting a factory enclosed style, and may even make an easily connectible inlet in the cab.
Amazing how little stuff used to be in an engine compartment. I had a Olds 442 - 455 it works out to 7.5 liters a fair bit of room in there too. Not mine, mine was old dirty and had dual 4 barrels but you get the idea
what part of VA? I grew up in Fairfax and went to ODU in Norfolk and covered a good portion of the state camping and hiking growing up. My wife is from the valley so we are back that way quite a bit.
That's in southwest Va
I'm in south central, Va, with much the same landscape.
Northern Va and Norfolk absoloutely suck, way overcrowded, and the terrain is fairly flat and no fun at all.

I saw his location and SW VA is a huge area, that landscape looks the same from roanoke up to harpers ferry lol. No argument from me about northern va, I enjoyed my time in Norfolk but wasn't into off-roading at that point in my life...I spend quite a bit of time in the valley these days but it's usually hunting with family as I'm not driving my disco from Denver to VA if I can help it

It is certainly a stark difference! There was simply less junk in the engine bay as well. Even in the '86 it's crazy how much stuff I removed that was just unnecessary.

That's correct. That specific spot is in the tiny Dickenson County, about an hour and a half from where I live.

That's what I keep telling my buddy in the silver Jeep that kept pulling me out. Haha
Can't wait to tackle it again when I get those couple issues sorted so I can run circles around him.
