Default hood needs help

The previous owner of my D2 must have parked under a nasty tree or something. There are spots where the clear coat is completely eaten through. None of it responded to a run with the clay bar so I went after it with a red rubbing compound but that also had no effect. Professional repaint is not in the budget.
I looked at duplicolor to see if there was something in their paintshop line but they don't even list landrover. I have painted motorcycles with good results - both rattle can and spray gun so I think I could do this hood.
Options I'm considering:
1. try to find the a paint match for DIY repaint
2. Vinyl hood wrap in matt black.
3. Vinyl hood wrap in camo. I bought this thing for as a daily driver capable of frequent hunting use so the camo theme would fit. Unfortunately, my wife would throw a fit about my inner redneck resurfacing.
4. insert your idea here!

The truck is black by the way.

Option 2, with either vinyl or paint...mine's vinyl from the factory and has held up extremely well for being 10+ years old.

As predicted, the wife made this decision for me. She said she won't go anywhere in it if I start making it look like a ranch ride - which is what I intend for it after driving for a few years.
So, I've found a paint source. Anybody used this place?

mine's black too.

i agree with rob. if you can just do the scoop then vinyl it (repairing underlying problem if necessary). i'm going with black vinyl scoop and the outside nicely compounded and polished.

i don't think you want to rattle it. IMO it usually comes out too ghetto.

If it's not going to be original color maybe it should match the roof which you might end up needing to do because of Alpine rust and bad sunroofs.

I just used this KBS rust paint that is self levelling (no brush strokes) and creates a hard as rock shell. I'm pretty sure I'm going to use it on my roof.

IMO painting part of the truck is troublesome unless you're going two tone, even two tone black.
