Default Newbe needs HELP! ABS Problem.

Newbe here! I have another little problem with me rig. The ABS kicks on for no reason, usually when coming to a stop. I'll be going 10MPH on drive clean pavement, and ABS starts and takes me three times further to stop. I've already tried replacing the ABS ECU. Didn't help. Any ideas?

Michael,
You really need to go have the ABS scanned for codes at the dealer, see what they find, write it down by code # and get back to us to see if we might be able to help you thru this.

My ABS on my '97 was acting up, so I cleaned the sensors and the parts on the rotor side, then readjusted the senor spacing. Seems to have done the trick so far. You might give this a try. Also you may check you vehicle speed sensor.

What you did with your truck is usually all that is needed to correct most Rover ABS problems.

I will try cleaning the sensors, and see if that helps. Will changing tire size effect the speed sensor to the point of effecting the ABS? Thanks!

Changing the tire size will not effect the speed sensor or the ABS.
I have 245-75-16 and no problems.

I still stand by my first message, if you had lots of ABS experience I would suggest you get dirty, but without knowing what to look for, go get it checked, get the codes, have them cleared, drive it and see if they come back, if they do get back to us first with the old codes.

I have an OBDII checker... Will this also check the ABS codes? I'm poor and a novice mechanic... Probably a bad combo for owning a Rover!

For some reason you are in the norm. As for you question, no a regular scanner won't access the ABS codes, need a test book or some other high end$$$ ABS scanner.
How are your brakes working now, with the lights on? Can you feel the ABS engage when braking on a slippery surface? If you can feel them working, you most likely had your truck throw a code indicating that there was a slight problem and it is OK. The lights just won't go off by them selves.
Have your brakes been squeaking, getting hot, dusty, new after market pads or is your brake fluid old and brown? Any of these will cause a possible code.
