Question D1 Subwoofers replaced, but no sound :(

Hi everyone,

I recently replaced my subwoofers with brand new subs, plugged them in, but I get no sound from the rear...

My Discovery's previous owner installed an aftermarket Clarion deck. I get sound from all the other speakers except the rear subs.

Any ideas, tips or tricks? I heard that the rover has a unique connection for the stock tape deck/radio and certain aftermarket decks might not work.

Any ideas or input would be greatly appreciated

The factory sound system had two amplifiers, one under the driver or passenger seat and one in the rear door for the subs. If the PO replaced the head unit, it's possible he removed or replaced one or both of the original amps as well.

The subwoofer amplifier runs from the main original amplifier. If your OEM amplifier has been removed or disconnected, the subwoofers need to connect directly to your new amplifier, or head unit.

X2 And your new head unit might not be telling the oem rear amp to power up. I think the purple/yellow wire on the sub connector does that. The main power is from the light green with orange wire.

I know the rear amplifier is still in the rear door, as I saw it while replacing the subs.

I'll have to figure out where/what the main amplifier is, and if that has been disconnected from the new head unit.

Will keep you posted

Any updates? I cant find my main amp either. I have the factory head unit with a CD changer under the passenger's seat.

Main amp on my '98 D1 was under the driver's seat. Passenger's had the CD changer. Sub amp was nowhere to be found.
