Radio / Antenna issue
running the factory radio with CD changer. I am getting really crappy reception on AM and FM. would this be an antenna issue? I have checked the antennas o the rear 1/4 windows but can not see any damage.
There is an amplifier for the antenna in the head liner near the window I believe, and as such it will have a fuse. On my D1 there are two, one FM, the other AM/FM. Previous owner upgraded radio, and only plugged in the FM. This was quite distressing as I needed my daily Rush to offset the blarney from NPR in the mornings.
I found the pre amp in the manual. It doesn't say if there are one or two units. Also I could not locate any fuses for the amp? I see I never indicated the vehicle in the original post. it's a 2001 series II. Anyone installed a conventional antenna on their disco?
There is just one on the D2. The fuse is 16 inside the passenger compartment. The amp is shown in this pix. The RAVE is a collection of shop and electrical manuals, belongs on every owner's computer and on a USB drive in the glove box.
Fuse could have hairline crack, a meter will tell for sure.
There is also no reason a standard antenna would not work, will be one more thing to get tangled up on the trail, etc.

thanks for the info I have the manuals downloaded. Just made a chance discovery. It's the HID headlights causing the interference. Similar to but more pronounced then when I plug in a cell phone to charge
