I'm fortunate, my SD has the full roof rails, so making up a couple crossbars was all I needed to do to mount the rack. Used two pieces of 1X3 square tubing, 49 inches long, welded some angle to the ends and used muffler clamps to mount to rails. I'll snap a couple picture of the crossbars later.

Sounds similar to what I did for a front mount bar on my Baja rack for the RTT

Cross braces and attachment hardware. End caps will hold awning l'm messing with (that's why it's already scratched up). I'm going to make some tie-down brackets that nut to the end of the muffler clamps used..and paint.

Cases up top and strapped down, test fit. Drove down the expressway 75mph, no noise difference. Also, picked up a hi-lo handle holder...and threw that on.

Four cases up top will hold, pillows, extra blankets, tools/jumper cables (which l hope to not need) and cook stove. Inside cases will hold cookware, dry good and one will be used as a cooler.

Four days until lift-off. Mini overland adventure with my grandson begins.

Have fun, I would be interested to know how you find top clearance with the rack.

This is more of a "overland experience/camping trip"...no real "heavy wheeling" or "extreme stuff". Just me and the grandson...just getting him out of doors and showing him what a vehicle can do when properly designed for off-roading. I'm picking him up at school and driving north from there...I'm sure he will get some "looks" as he jumps in the front seat of the rover.

My daughter asked me to send her an email listing items he should bring.

Here is my reply...

------------------------------------------------------------------
He will need...

Two sleeping bags
Pillow
Boots
Shoes
Hat
Gloves
Three pairs of pants/shirts/socks (warm ones)
Maps, compass, matches and extra food (in case we get separated for a day or so)
------------------------------------------------------------------

Haven't heard back from her yet...but I know the last one will catch her attention...lol.

That last line is about perfect, you will know if she was paying attention at least

Camping trip recap. First evening camp.

A little exploring next day.

Found a nice lake to relax at and shoot the bb gun.

More exploring that afternoon.

Setting up camp for the evening.

Second evening camp, same lake as mid day shoot.

Neighbors.

Great weekend. Looking forward to doing it again.

Brian.
