The military trailers are amazing but heavy and pricey. I just picked up a 68-70 hilux truck bed trailer for house work that I'm in the process of adapting the hubs to fit my old alloy rover wheels (mainly to lift the trailer so I don't have to use such a massive drop hitch) and I'd love to use it for camping once I finish up some of these renovations. The tongue length is super short which makes balancing the load super critical so I'll need to have that lengthened before it sees any serious highway use. Also would be nice to carry a spare and toolbox on the tongue.

Finally I can get back to this, 1st up is to design and build a camp kitchen. I am not sure how far down that rabbit hole I want to go so it may be very simple.
Basically stove and cooking utensil storage, my tub is getting a bit tired although it is functional.
Legs are always way over thought, a simple folding set like a hotel luggage rack will work.

Then fuel can storage, I carry mine inside, no leak style that work very well, but they need a full time home now. I carry 2 for 40 extra liters but a 3rd may be required if I ever get the Tuk trip going.
Passenger side probably where the 60% seat used to sit. Should balance me out nicely.
Then just a logical storage system for tools, food ,trail spares

Excited to see this all come together. I've been leaning towards pulling the 60% seat and building a drawer system.

@Fastercat alas no the forecast was for heavy rain for 5 days, it has been raining off and on since. Had an afternoon nap though it was decent, I might need a bit more padding but that is me as I have gotten older

Finally have sometime to get some work done.

Heating, fuel and misc light box.

From top to bottom
  • Container with 3 glow sticks, emergency candle lantern, mini screwdriver with built in light, Heater fuel adaptors and some hand warmers to heat the butane on cold mornings
  • Kovea Butane ceramic heater
  • Ceramic tile that the heater sits on
  • Right side ISO butane and regular butane. the short squat can also works with my jet boil stove
To be added:
  • shelf mounts and shelves
  • Bungies to hold fuel cans so they do not bounce around
  • Divider between fuel and gear
  • Door and Catch
  • General reinforcement
I have a similar box that is becoming my kitchen/stove box still working that one out

Watching with interest. I hope you post about your trip. My wife and I have started the long-term planning for a trip to Alaska, BC, Yukon, and Arctic Circle. Probably 3 years out. Plenty of time to prep our Disco.

Well I was out for 3 days and had some time to figure things out. 1st thing up the Roof top tent, well worth it to me comfortable nights sleep both nights.

Setting up and take down in the rain is not terrible, just have a rain jacket and it is fine.
I do have to stand on the spare time to remove the ladder strap, I am going to replace that as it a buckle issue.
There was a tiny bit of water inside as a result of the folding process, but that was user error in not making sure things were closed up right
The telescoping ladder can not always lock right, I found this on the last night, but this tent has tied down locations on teh over hang. A single tie down tightened down solved that issue.
A found piece of plywood as a ladder base also worked out very well

I did bring a small step ladder to see if it would help with setup and closing, it is a somewhat useful but the jury is still out.

I tested a small tarp as wind/rain brake on my awning that worked out very well, I just need a far better attachment method than random bungie's . At $9.00 it beats the price of the ARB panels at $90.00 but I may splurge on a $15.00 tarp.

The sand/mud mat is too small, but that is not a big deal I bought for when I slept in side, I will just get a larger one.

And on the camp pictures

Tied down

Liking that RTT. Did you notice much roll with the extra weight?

@The Deputy No I did not but in total with Awning, RTT, racks I only have 155 lbs up there. The nice thing about Disco's they are pretty heavy, and I pack low.

I may need a 1 inch spacer at the back though, she sits back a bit fully loaded. I need to measure empty then loaded out to confirm

We did this little off camber bit and the Disco felt the same to me
