Cool. I’ve always liked the idea of a rooftop tent. Quick to set up and quick to pack up.
Always there when you need it. Leaves more storage rm in the truck too I think.

Well things have been quiet as I have been working on head gaskets, but I have noticed an excess of dust where there should be none.

I am looking at adding a secondary dust trap, as well as some dust protection:
  • A circular thin foam filter inside the tube just before the MAF, something that is easily cleanable. It is really just a dust catcher
  • A cloth "sock" covering the tube out of air box lid covering those connections
  • A cloth cover over the top of the airbox
I am pretty certain the seal around those locations is not good, old age. As I am generally tail end of our groups I eat a lot of dust.

Pictures forth coming.

And the boss gave me the ok for a Rooftop tent, once I have confirmed the Disco is good post head gasket repair

a snorkel and fully sealing everything up nice should help with some of the dust mitigation.

@whowa004 I thought about a snorkel, but sealing up will make the biggest difference. I am pretty sure the O ring in the intake tube no longer seals well same with top cover.

That will help a lot but combined with a raised intake and the nozzle turned around (on an ARB unit at least) will make a huge difference, it gets quite dusty here in the summers and I've had a marked improvement since the install.

Ok gaskets done Disco is free, back to prep for the summer. Given my current lack of employment,a RTT may or may not be in the cards.

With that in mind I am working on a better internal sleeping arrangement.
My current setup is a very basic sleeping platform to keep weight down, but I am thinking a foldable cot may work better.
  • A cot that folds in half would still give me good access to underneath
  • Still very light
  • Would fit in the space
Downsides
  • Height they tend to be about 20 inches high
  • Comfort a lot to them are narrow and uncomfortable
  • no customizing

And things change again had an big casino win, RTT is back in play. I am still looking at alternatives but leaning to a Tepui Explorer Ayer RTT, I saw a decent video where I fellow set some rails and could lift and remove the tent solo.
Lots to do but I have started planning an interior reorganization to get things where I want them. 1st up will be some lightweight plywood flooring to give me some decent tie downs.

Well after driving the wife nuts doing my research and due diligence, with luck I will be picking up a Tepui tent tomorrow. I have a test piece of plywood up there right now and there should be no significant issues.

So 1st up a 48 x 50 piece of plywood to check general fit, the tent is 48 front to rear so that works pretty well, it is only 42 left to right so I am 8 inches wider on the plywood no biggy there.
You will notice an additional support mocked up at the front , the load for the stock roof rack is 110lbs so it will carry some of the load for the tent just fine. (the tent is 95 lbs)

All up with me and the tent the static load will be about 300 lbs, with half on the overhang of the tent. Each Front Runner bar is rated for around 220 so I am good there.

The rear most load bar will get moved forward a bit and the front load bar back a bit they need to be between 24 and 32 inches apart, right now they are 31. I am thinking closer to 26, for better spreading of the load.

Just a close up of the test mount for the front, I am hoping to get a 2x2 square tube of aluminum for the front mount location. I wanted another Front Runner bar but that would have been nearly 300 CDN by the time it got to me. I can pick up a single load bar for a Delcia for 175ish CDN if I feel the need for more support
